New site?

That's the worlds worst petition -- such poorly planned things do our cause more harm than good.

But it's true - notice how it says the letter will change so you really don't know what you're signing. It could end up as something you totally disagree with. It's like signing a blank check for a complete stranger. And that's just one of the problems with it.

They won't do any good. Wing Commander will return when whoever makes these decisions at EA thinks they can profit from another game. A poorly written letter signed by a few hundred people (I'm being optimistic here) won't even get read.

EA would even (probably) ignore a petition signed by a thousand, or even five thousand people. Ultimately it's a very very tiny part of the market. That, and most such petitions fail because it's online: I can sign one three or four times, or a dozen, or a hundred times under different names. Real signatures are much more effective.

Add to that the fact that the wcrevival site is run by a militaristic speshul Nazi wannabe education-hating war monger that can't get his history right and you'll start to see just how likely it is that EA will pay attention...

edit, damn spelling

Shut your mouth, collage baby face, or ...

Exactly. And you just know half of the people who really did sign will not end up buying it afterall because it has someone other than Mark Hamil playing Blair or some other dumb reason.

There are people who still believe in Wing Commander, and eventually they will deem the market ready for another game. Meanwhile we just need to stick around. Don't waste time and effort on pointless petitions, just stick around. An online community that's still as active after so many years says more than a hundred thousand autographs.

I actually droped an idea to LOAF a few days ago about getting actual signed signatures from people while LOAF and the crew are at DragonCon. It might be a little bit better than just an old CGI petition thingee.

As for Mark Hamill, he was a big reason I played WC. Still, as long as the characters are as smartly written and theres a little of the magic there, thats more than enough reason for me to play. :D

I believe the only thing that will save WC is a change in market forces...more demand in another words. EA probably won't listen until a competitor comes up with an extremely popular space sim title and reaps massive profits from it.

The problem with the space-sim genre is that its a case of " been there , done that " .
Unfortunately Redwolf is right , EA is in it for the money and the only way we're ever going to see another WC game is if someone else makes one that sells through the roof. And the only realistic way thats going to happen is if that game breaks new ground and impresses the general gaming public enough to make them buy it.
Theres tonnes of people out there who have excellent ideas...maybe if EA listened to them we could get ourselves a new WC game.

You people forgot why Privateer Online was cancelled in the first place - EA already has a space sim in the works. Earth and Beyond from Westwood Studios has been in development since 1997.

That's one good reason... there are a nubmer of others.

Still, it appears that EA is finally starting to reign in Westwood -- and I'd bet you seven dollars that E&B will be cancelled.

I completely agree with Manboy's opening line, as the whole genre has plateaued. God, how I miss the innocent wonder of WC1 and X-Wing! :(

LOAF, why seven dollars?

Sorry Phoenix, but movies around here in Connecticut are $8.50, which is utterly blasphemous! I use to go to the movies a lot to see bad movies and heckel them or scream in horror (Bless the Child anyone?) and I can't do that as often as I'd like now.

Which reminds me, I really, really liked AI.

We now return you to your previous broadcast. :)

Movies at Famous Players in Canada don't usually go for less than $14.00 CAD (big screen)... :(
$7.50 CAD on Tuesdays though...

Wow... you're getting rather ripped off... only the stupid Silver Cities and other big multiplexes cost that much for Famous Players here. The normal Famous Playerses are more reasonable than that.
