Need some help here

I finally got Wing Commander IV from my brother. I have it running in Windows 98 which is great. I have programmed my Saitek X36 for maximum fraggin power. Here is the problem What the hell do I do in the first mission from the Lexington? I go in and escort the transport until the jump out, right? then I go to the comm-array and Eisen tells me not to shoot the bad guy's however I've already killed one or two. Then I follow the other bad guy's to the frigate target the frigate it jumps out and I can't complete the mission! I destroy the remaining bad guy's and go home to be humiliated by the damn comm officer! You guy's tell me what I'm doing wrong please, do I not kill any bad guy's at the comm-array or do I have to kill that frigate? I know this is stupid 'cause it is the first damn mission but I'm confused.
 
You have to follow the remaining bandits to a certain extent and NOT kill them. You also have to stay a ways back from them as well.

Ok I can handle a little blasphemy. Once the frigate jump out do I just turn to the next waypoint and fly to it until I can autopilot there? I will try that next time. Hey thanks for the reply.
 
IIRC, once the frigate comes up on the radar, the computer tells you "Mission Complete" and then you start back to the Lexington.
 
Greywolf's right. The instant you see the frigate and hear "mission complete", turn around, hit afterburners and haul a** back to the Lex.
 
Well, you don't HAVE to afterburn back... but I do have one bit of advice. Edit- you DO have to return to the Lexington as soon as the mission is complete. Just not at top speed.
Use the hellcat(not sure, is this the right ship?). The longbow is far too slow to keep up and complete the mission.

Like I said I finally got my brothers copy of WCIV. I have had it a few months and couldn't get it to work. Someone on this board pointed me to a patch for Win95 and now it works great. I have a Saitek X36 programmable joystick and throttle control that I programmed for WCIV and it even works great.

I did however start the game Freespace2 and it took me awhile to finish it.
 
You an use the Longbow, you just have to lock your burners and start towards the frigate as soon as you come out of autopilot.

You can stay within 7000-13000 clicks of the Thunderbolt. As soon as you hear "Mission Complete" Turn back and head towards the nav point.

It only gets harder after that...
 
If you really want to beef your kill score fail the first mission. The next mission where you go after the frigate will be longer with more pirates to waste. Eisen also says something different in the briefing. Furthermore if you don't like that comm officer you'll soon have an opportunity to do something permanent about him...
