There seems to be a little confusion regarding the different ranking systems used by the NAVY the Space Force and the Marine Corps. Maybe this thread can help to clarify things. Lets do this top down starting with the Flag Ranks in the following order (Navy/SpaceForce/MarineCorps):

Fleet Admiral / General of the SpaceForce / General
Admiral / General / Lt. General
Vice Admiral / Lt. General / Major General
Rear Admiral / Major General / Brigadier General
Commodore / Brigadier General / Colonel

Officers:

Captain / Colonel / Lt. Colonel
Commander / Lt. Colonel / Major
Lt. Commander / Major / Captain
Lieutenant / Captain / 1st Lieutenant
Lieutenant j.g. / 1st Lieutenant / 2nd Lieutenant
Ensign / 2nd Lieutenant / Chief Warrant Officer
Chief Warrant Officer / Chief Warrant Officer / Warrant Officer

Non-Commissioned-Ranks:

Warrant Officer / Chief Master Sergeant / -
Master Chief Petty Off. / Senior Master Sgt. / Sgt. Major
- / Master Sergeant / Master Gunnery Sergeant
Senior Chief Petty Off. / Technical Sgt. / Master Sergeant
- / Staff Sergeant / 1st Sergeant
Chief Petty Officer / Airman 1st Class / Gunnery Sergeant
Petty Officer 1st Class / - / Staff Sergeant
Petty Officer 2nd Class / Airman 2nd Class / Sergeant
Petty Officer 3rd Class / Airman 3rd Class / Corporal
Seaman / Airman Basic / Lance Corporal
Seaman Apprentice / - / Private 1st Class
Seaman Recruit / - / Private

Yes the Marine Colonel is a flag rank. Ever wondered why Col. Nathan A. Jessup in "A Few Good Men" has such a high position. That's why...

I believe that Marine Corps would hold the same ranks as an equivalent Space Force rank. ie, Colonel = Colonel, not Lt Colonel.

Also a Chief Warrant Officer is not an officer. He would be an enlisted man/woman.

Not including Warrant Officers...

(Flag officers are O7 and above).

But what is the matter with WC games,In WCIV Paulsen,Eisen and in WCP Willford have the *full rectangle tag* so they rank are Commodore or Captain ( i know they are captains of they ships).
And What about Finley she have the *3 squares tag* and the WCP says she is Lt. Comder.
Hawk is Col. but have the Captain tag.

Colonel is the equivalent rank to Captain so they woud have the same insignia, a USN Captain has the same Eagle as a USAF/USA/USMC Colonel,

What i mean is they have the full rectangle and here this is Brigadier General in the SF, in the TC Navy means Commodore. so all the captains of ships in the WC4 and WCP are Commodores.

Navy officer ranks up to Commadore are designated with horozontal stripes.

Ensign - 1 wide
Lt. J.G. - 1 narrow over 1 wide
Lt. - 2 wide
Lt. Cmdr. - 1 narrow between 2 wide
Cmdr - 3 wide
Capt. - 4 wide

Army/AF/Marines

2nd Lt. - Gold Bar
1st Lt. - Silver Bar
Capt. - Two silver bars (connected)
Maj. - Bronze Oak Leaf
Lt. Col. - Silver Oak Leaf
Col. - Eagle

wc games and ranks

The script girl/guy in WCIII and higher had a damn tough job to do. Well, there are "little" inconsistencies in the games and novels regarding ranks. We just have to live with this little mistakes.

Reference: "The Harcourt Incidence"...lol
--> See the Milk Run thread !

The ranks insignias are different for the two forces... Wilford, Eisen and Paulsen have the full bar, because they're Line Captains -- the Commodore insignia is something odd (see Blair in WCP).

The Colonel insignia, which Blair, Hawk, etc. wear is a full bar with a line at the bottom.

Finley is a Lt. Com., and her rank is three bars -- there's no equivalent SF 'three-bar' rank (LtCmdr is the 'second' 04 rank in the Navy side, and has no SF equivalent).

Probably wrong but...wasn't Hawk a Lieutenant Colonel?

What is an Ensign 2nd Class, never heard of that one before.

Well, Ensign 2nd Class doesn't exist in my country's navy, so it's either something they borrowed from another nation or just made up.

The WC ranks aren't an exact mirror of the current system -- there are lots of minor changes like that... or the Lt. Gen/Maj. Gen swap.

Well, the Terran Confederation *does* consist of more than just America. :) To be honest, I's surprised that the Confed system (not just the military, but the political structure, the location of the capitol ect.) is as closely modelled on America as it is. It would have taken a fair amount of persuation to make countries like Russia, Britain and China (whose histories extend back centuries before America even existed) to simply adopt the American system.

Considering that it will probably be America that leads the push into space and handles all the major financing and technological development, they will probably have to just to be able to take part of it.

Assuming, of course, that things stay the same in the next two or three centuries that they are now. Keep in mind that only a century ago, it was Britain that was a global superpower that ruled a vast empire, and yet now Britain is just another European country. Things do change.

So do I. :) With a little luck, we might see the colonisation of other planets in our solar systems within our lifetime.
