I wish to create a Privateer 3 if you will, only it will be unlike any game you have ever played, or will ever play, it will be based entirely off of the Wing Commander Series, It will be set durinng the Terran-Kilrathi War. What makes this ambitious is that within the game, you will be able to go ANYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE WING COMMANDER UNIVERSE! It will have the entire universe map from Prophecy fully integrated into it. You will be able to buy almost anyship you were allowed to fly in the Wing Commander games as well as a few Kilrathi ships you weren't, I loved the Wing Commander cockpits (didn't we all), so I'm going to bring them back, I will also include the option to switch off the cockpits if you prefer that. The game will allow the player great freedom, yet it will adhere strictly to the Wing Commander timeline, there will be a dating system used, so if you were to visit say, the Goddard colony on a date before it was destroyed, you would find the Goddard colonists peacefully going about there business, you would even be able to land there, but if you visited Goddard after that terrible day in history, you would find it levelled! I will also make it so that if you visit Goddard on the exact date it was destroyed, you will get to see the colony get completely levelled! This sort of history in your face style, will be used throughout the game, If you happened to be in the system where the Behemoth is test firing, you will see it level a planet, at the same time you will told to leave the system immediately by Confed pilots patrolling the surrounding area. You will be able to purchase guns, and upgrades for your ship, you will even be able to go to the BLACK MARKET! where you will be able to purchase items deemed illegal by confed, There will be a bounty hunters, and merchants guilds as well as others when I've decided on them, there may even be a Pirate's guild. It will be based off of the privateer style game, but it will use a completely new engine with full 3d graphics and sound, I have yet to decide if I will include characters, You will be able to hire your services out to confed, private owners, pirates, even the Kilrathi, yes this game will take the privateer concept even further, you will be able to work for the Kilrathi against the rest of Humanity! I need lot's of help with this game, I need researchers, programmers, graphics artists, anyone who can donate stuff is welcome, I will continually work on this project, I will not let it die. It is my wish to see Wing Commander thrive, and with this game I hope to achieve that goal, I would like to make it multiplayer comatible, and maybe even in the far off future make it into a fully online game, I don't think it would be feasible but.... I am already designing artwork for the game, so if anyone can donate stuff........ I need cockpits people, lot's of cockpit's I have them for terran wing commander 2 ships, and I can get them for Wing Commander 1 it will take some time though, I would like to get some wing commander 3 cockpits as well as some Kilrathi ones, I would like to use the existing privateer 1 and wing commander 1&2 cockpit's, but I also need wing commander 3 cockpit's I want all the cockpit's to have the same detail level, which means I need to either downgrade the Wing commander 3 cockpit's or else upgrade the wing commander 1&2 cockpits. I have got all the planets ready, I have a mesh of earth and one of Kilrah, any other planets can be created with the Axion planet shader plugin for truespace 4.3 It generates planets quickly and easily. This is a very, very ambitious idea, Darkmage. It requires expensive equipment to create a nice computer game. I think that you need the help of professionals in order to create a game. But, best of luck to you.

Also, I wonder if Chris Roberts would help you start the game, he wouldn't have to finish it but he could give you some ideas (I don't know that much about what he is like, but I get the idea he is a friendly guy)- just a thought.
 
Thanks, I do think it could be done as a computer game, All we need is the meshes, I's not really that complicated, If I can get meshes and an engine that works like Privateer's I reckon I could do it.
 
We start with a space flight sim engine, then we need add a dating feature, then we add a trading system ala Privateer, to that we add the navpoint style system from privateer but we give it more systems until we have uploaded the entire wing commander universe map into it. We then create a random ship generator which generates what ships will be at which navpoints every time you jump into a system. You make it so that for time periods it will allow the game to use certain ships so that you dont get krants flying alongside Vaktoths. :)you just use generic models for stations and planets, asteroid fields etc, except when doing the two homeworlds! and specific bases. You could also program certain systems to have specific ships in them at certain times. Tadda it's done, my privateer game is complete!

Of course. This is what I'm trying to get at, If someone else will do the programming, I will do all the 3dmodels, and some interface art, then I just need to an artist and we can make this game.

hmm...this would be REALLY REALLY REALLY cool IF it came through. That sounds like it'd be difficult even for a professional game company to do. I don't want to rain on your parade, but I wouldn't put my chips on this one getting off the ground. Maybe you should talk to Thomas Bruckner or that-guy-who-made-Vega Strike. I've played around with Flight Commander a bit, which is cool. Perhaps you could get some help from them.

Now like I said, this will be toush and probably take YEARS to do. Especially since you don't have a programmer.

Well, you could probably pick up a good deal of the older craft. Even if it's not directly from Confed. Like i'd bet you could make a deal with the BW or Landreich for some better tech. Or maybe you could aquire those ships from a salvage operation. Either way, you COULD obtain most of the ships mentioned with alittle doing.
 
HOw the Hell did you get flight Commander? I've been trying to get in touch ewith the guy who's making it. Of all the Games, I think it would be easiest to convert flight commander to this style, I don't really care about having the war event's included, they could just be added on a message board during the game, but I would really like to see the rest of thne game get done.
 
All the ships which are in the Black market list, are prototypes or Kilrathi. They have been stolen from confed and Captured during the war, I have not yet started on the upgrades list.
 
I've said this already, but...I think it would be better to, instead of creating 4 billion planets that look alike, to create a few really cool and detailed places. Of course, afterwards, you could throw in the 4 billion other planets (for realism?).

Anyway, if we've got people creating an online World War II game, I guess anything is possible. :)
 
i've played flight commander.. but i don't thinnk you'd be able to easily add all the features you're describing.. maybe you should talk to eddie about it
 
I am adding detailed places, All the main bases etc in the wing commander and privateer bases are in there. I can create MANY different planets wih the Axion Planet shader, from Iceworlds, to LAva worlds from Jungle, to desert, it randomly generates continents, islands, everything.

Where did you get Flight Commander and where can I play it? (yeah, I know this was asked already, but you can't ask this question too many times!)

Thanks. What I meant, though, is that you could put more effort into the individual areas if you simulated less. Kinda like Daggerfall vs. Redguard, or Flight Simulator vs. Flight Unlimited.

Unless Axiom generates planets automatically in-game...I do hope that's the case. :)
 
I understand what your saying man, but if I were to do that, do you have any idea how hard that would be? I am going to have to use a generic sort of layout already, the only real differences between some planets is going to have to be example: one planet has a ship dealer, another doesn't this is for the sake of being able to keep it on 1 cd. I will have more detailed planerts though IE: in wing commander 1 all the planets mentioned WILL have different interface art. same goes for WC 2, & 3. I'm sorry, I would kill to do more but that's what today's technology limits are. If I could I would have ships with over 1 billion faces , super detailed, every planet entirely different.; But I can't It just can't be done. I do want this game to be done in a way that you can go from one end of the war to the other both in time, and in space.
