Minor Prophecy questions...

Saturnyne

Vice Admiral
Been playing Prophecy tonight and realizing some stuff...

1. What is with the bully routine from Maniac towards Casey at the beginning? In previous games, he showed no such tendencies. In fact, he was always eager to teach youth about breaking from the pack and flying with "a little 'tude".

2. I've heard that Taggart is the Alterion (sp) Consolate... so he's a Senator and the Consolate, a retired Confed pilot and had/has a wife and kid?

3. Hawk has gotten severely tougher and much angrier since POF... what happened to him between those times? Also, if he did serve on the Tiger's Claw, where was he when it went boom? Where did he serve after the Tiger's Claw?

4. What did Casey do to earn him the "most demerits" of any pilot in the academy?

Might have more as I go through the game... later.

1) In the past games, Maniac was always going head to head with Blair, Mr. Heart of The Tiger himself. Now, he's dealing with a plebe, and he's trying to put the kid in his place.

2) I think Taggart and the Altairan Consolate General are differant people.

3) Probably just the death of his family gnawing away at him, plus the end of the Kilrathi War and Black Lance conflict denying him an enemy to take his pain out on.

4) No idea, but I'm sure all those who hate Casey can come up with some interesting thoughts. :D Seriously, I think that was thrown in to tell veteran WC fans that Casey was no Blair. Despite his callsign of "Maverick", Blair was a strictly by the book type.

Best, Raptor

1) Well, Maniac announced it that he will kick Casey's worthless butt around until he has proven himself, just like Iceman did it with Maniac back when he was a plebe.
2) Not sure what you want to know
3) He is probably angry because in his opinion Confed allows the Kilrathi too much freedom and don't push them back when they raid human colonies.
4) According to the WCP guide he became fresh towards superiors when he realized what a good pilot he is. And when he was ordered to fly shuttles, the long and boring times between the missions made him do stupid things.

1. Maniac was the same way (to start) with ultra-newbee Catscratch in WC4 -- watch the first scene where Catscratch first meets Blair again. The difference that comes about is, of course, that Catscratch is in awe of Maniac, whereas Casey was certainly not (Or maybe he was -- he did get that picture... <G>).

2. Taggart is the Senator for Altair (WC4 novel).

3. He served on Tiger's Claw as a comm tech (like those things that make Star Wars figures talk!) in the early 50s (before Blair's time). He was at OCS training to be a fighter pilot when it went boom (and then served on Austin with Icema afterwards).

4. Met Maestro in his Freshman Year. (Actually, according to the WCP Guide it was his personality while among instructors...)

Aye, 'e's a real Renaissance man, that Paladin is.... (and let's nah be forgettin' 'is time in Confed Intel, don'tcha know?...)

Maniac's like that towards all newbies..but as the game goes on, you see he's not as tough as he claims to be...I think Prophecy was really the first game to have a yonunger, more vulnerable Maniac...or something...

Anyway, is it just me, or is it strange that Maniac's been on active duty since the 2650s?

He's no longer on active duty... and he didn't spend all that time on the front lines (he alternated between test pilot assignments).

heh... well I saw what happened between Maniac and Dekker when they went at it... of course, Dekker is skilled in close combat, but is there anything that says who won the little fight Casey had with Maniac after Dallas' death?

Being the son of a famous parent isn't easy. Just ask any kid whose parent is a teacher at their school. Sometimes its easier to rebel (although the smart ones don't get caught doing it :p ).

Probably didn't get far enough for an actual winner and loser.

Maniac probably bragged about creaming Casey though.

There's not much to see actually.

I think the fact that Casey is stuck with a cheesy picture of Maniac stuck on his locker should say enough about the result of the fight, finished or not. Come to think of it, that's very few lockers considering how many pilots there are supposed to be on the Midway. I assume there's more behind your POV in that ready room.

Still, it's nice to see Casey and Maniac getting along better, regarding the MIA pilot and the "Casey, my only friend" scenes.

It's kind of amazing to me... despite what people say about the script (which I never berate because it is good to me), Maniac undergoes major changes as a character which hasn't happened much before in WC games.

Maniac has always been a reasonably 'deep' character (well, perhaps not in WC1, but he gets deeper as he goes along). There is a lot hidden behind the brash, boastfull exterior. I don't feel that Maniac's character changes enormously in Prophecy - you just get to see a bit more of it.

In Prophecy, they tried to add a bit of depth to Blair too, something which was lacking in the earlier games. I guess it's difficult to make the primary character too complex, since he has to represent a wide variety of players. Casey is painfully shallow.
