Microsoft sidewinder problem

Hello,

I got the game to install using the suggestion from the Mechanic. Now the joystick calibration is all over the place. any idea's or suggestions?

Which game? If it is a DOS game and your stick is connected to USB as I think this stick is then you are out of luck. No USB for DOS...

DOS hates digital joysticks

Unfortunately, if you're running something in DOS, then a digital Sidewinder stick is useless. I think only the most ancient, first-generation two-button Sidewinder would have worked with DOS...

I think if you look hard, you can still find old two-button analog sticks here or there ... but you have to use them on the gameport. If you have one.

What I don't get is why do you all consider digital/USB sticks to be superior? I got a nice collection of sticks, most fully programmable (with up to 33 buttons), all analogue. They just work so flawlessly...

I injoy analog sticks more than digital .They just need manual calibration and you got to fix them once in a while if you want them to be perfect.Anyway I use only analog sticks and Im completely happy (and the Kilrathi are not !

Sidewinder dos TSR

I have recently found a dos driver for Sidewinder devices.

The author says the model doesn't matter (no USB of course) but I belive it was written for the sidewinder gamepad.

Sidewinder problem

Sorry,

I guess I wasn't clear enough.

I got Privateer 2 working by altering the properties for the install by not detecting windows. It installed fine then I installed the patch. I then changed the shortcut to not detect windows also.
My Microsoft sidewinder is USB and that's why it's all over the place? would a Gravis Game pad work?

If the game pad is not connected via USB, but via the joystick port of your sound card, then most likely it will work.
Most likely because there are some digital sticks that actually are connected to the joy port and still don't work. If possible try the stick with your PC before buying even tho the chance of failure isn't high.

I red once that just like the sticks there are digital and analogue joystick ports as well. The problem seems to arise if a digital stick is connected to a digital port. Dunno if that is true.

Gravis Gamepad says to me the classic one with a couple of bright coloured buttons and a purple D-pad (below). That's quite definately analogue and will work just fine. It was actually my control of choice for many years.

Ah, that's the one I have, too (wouldn't use it for a flight sim of course). But Gravis got lots of different pads, including ones without cable IIRC. I don't know which ones of them work.
