Today you learn exactly how difficult a job mission designer is - with this large document containing forty-six pages of mission layout diagrams. Each has symbols representing what appears at each nav point alongside objectives, conditions and other mission criteria. Just look at how complex even some of the early missions are (some of them are quite beautiful, too.)

It's weird seeing that horrible mission, "Convoy Rescue" drawn up in that fashion. It captures the essence of going from nav point to nav point, over and over, only to lose the transports, get bounced on the way back and have to defend Midway.
 
hehe, thats funny since thats probably my favorite mission. Its the mission that most gave me the sense of "holy cow, I'm out here unsupported with billions of these little bastards swarming my carrier.. " To me, it wasn't that every fighter was powerful that I faced (they weren't) its that they kept coming without mercy. It seemed to me that even though I had a higher kill ratio in P5 than any other game I was making less of a difference and they just had that many ships to throw away.

It was kind of creepy at the time.
