Kilrathi Saga: what is new?

Mekt-Hakkikt

Mpanty's bane
As I have given up of ever getting my paws on one of these, I just have to ask: What am I missing? What is new in KS?
You get revamped music, optional cockpits and so on. But what with new cutscenes or a new manual that offers new insights? Perhaps on the Kilrathi? If that is the case, couldn't someone make a pdf version of it, just like they did it with Voices of war? It would really be great for those who were too stupid (like myself) or who had no opportunity to get it.
Thanks.

In my KS box was a Kilrathi Saga Calendar (1997), a very good manual (additional infos + pics) and the game of course (incl. better sound/music, optional drop-away cockpit and speed adjusting). And all for less than 40 bucks :)

Aaaah, do not rub salt in the wound!
What I wanted to hear was: "No fear, Mekt-Hakkikt, you missed nothing, it was almost a fraud." :(
Now, what kind of new information or pics? Tell me, please.
And how about you making a pdf version of it? ;)

See, why pay 300 bucks on ebay when you can find it elsewhere for lots less. A little paitience can go a long way, specially for the wallet! Found my KS thru an add in the paper. The add only had to run 2 days! Got my KS for 25.00, came with everything, cd's in mint condition! Now to find Academy! :D

I got my first KS from EA Direct back in '97... for fifty dollars and a trip to the emergency room (now *there's* a long story...:)).

I got another one for 125 on eBay recently. I'd like to get the international version with the bound manual...

(Interesting fact: the original plan was for KS to include a WC soundtrack CD... this was originally the big selling point of re-releasing the old games -- the community was very, very outraged when copywrite issues cancelled that idea. :)).

Could please anyone answer my question "What new informations do we get?" instead of telling me that you own it and how great it is :( . That is cruel.

The primary benefit of KS is not added cutscenes (to my knowledge there aren't any) or a tonne of added manual material - it's the actual modification of the games' code to make them native Windows programs with support for DirectX and such. As systems get faster we've seen how difficult it can be to get the originals working properly (if at all) in DOS or Windows because of technology that's just too advanced for what the games were written to work on.

The KS release is just basically so you don't have to play around with DOS or Windows settings trying to get the originals working. They're designed to be Windows compatible, right out of the box. The only differences are some small tweaks like the optional cockpits, digital sound and (my personal favourite) throttle and rudder support in Wing3.

I think the only new fiction is a kind of "Blair's Scrapbook" in which there are letters from the games' characters and certificates for console training and stuff. This was kind of interesting to look through but I actually found it a tad cheesy, but maybe I'm alone in that.

May be cheesy, but it'd still be nice to see it...

BTW, I have Academy too. It really wasn't that great. With no storyline and only the Wraith and Jrathek as extra ships... plus the stars in that game looked worse than in WC2! And you could shoot down space stations without torps. Hmmm, must've been going retro.

Candor is a space station, not a starbase. :)

KS manual has more extra fiction -- all the WC2 stuff is new, as is some of the stuff mixed into the rest (the eye surgery article, for instance).

Well tanks guys. I mean it was time that they boosted the WC2 manual, the original was really bad. And some fiction, well that is good enough. But that means I missed something :( .
I liked Academy because it had a good manual and you could make your own missions (that was for what is was for, anyway) I just re-read that last sentence and it must be false but perhaps you do understand what I mean :).
What I missed was the Gothri and that there were was only one kind of Capships, i.d. a Dorkathi for simulating attacks on ships withput phase shields and the Ralatha for attacking ships with. I would have liked to see the Kamekh and the Fralthra and perhaps some Terran Capships you could escort.

Well, I did say space station, but I see your point. I forgot that they used the same model for two different types of stations.
