Episodes 4-5 are collectively called "Goodbye Galaxy!" and are also
published by Apogee Software. This series of Commander Keen was
released somewhere around June of 1991.
Ok, when was WC I released? 1991, right? So I guess I was correct... :)

Oooh, when I was all of 9 years and 18 days old. And I had only been in Australia for a month and 24 days! :)

Wow. Wing Commander came out when I was in the second grade. I've been playing for more than ten years. That's a scary thought.

I guess *I* was right...:)

Not a bad timing after all, I got my first PC (a 80286 with 12 MHz, 1 MB RAM, 40mb HDD, 16bit VGA card with 256kb memory, not a too bad machine at that time, I think) on Oct 13, 1990 (my 17th birthday), but didn't know of WC at that time (since only a few friends did own a PC at that time, most of them still used the C64, Atari ST or Amiga), I think I first played it in Spring/Summer 91, without having a sound card :(

LOAF, if your birthday in the CIC fan directory is correct, you were 9 when WC1 was released...did you already know about WC at that time?

Yes, I was 9 or 10 when the first WC came out... my dad reccomended it to me, because he'd read about it in Jerry Pournelle's Byte column...

I first played it on a PC (it's native platform, although it was released for Amiga soon after).

I believe I first played on an IMB PS2 model 80... a 386/16. And then I got my *own* computer, a PS2 model 30 (286/12) which I ran WC1 with... and *sort of* ran WC2.

(The model 80 is still working, I believe... and I'm still using the big old keyboard from the model 30 on my current work machine -- those things were well made:)).

Keen on Gameboy... Aaugh!

Not only that, but the article got Billy's ship's name wrong!! He flew the Bean with Bacon Megarocket, for crissakes!!

And Billy always had a YELLOW football helmet.

AAUGH!! Oh, the humanity.

(Something more to emulate... ~sigh~)

AVault screwing up facts is hardly anything new... they're the ones who complained about how you could see the strings on the WC movie's models...

The people who write for AVault being idiots aside, the color of Keen's helmet is right on the game box (G)

Yeah, you probably are.

I remember playing Keens 1, 2, and 3. And with them, Duke Nukem 1, 2, and 3, back when it was just a platform shooter or whatever like Super Mario Brothers. Was fun. I think I'll go looking for that....

Probably not -- when *I* discovered Commander Keen
I was in college and wasting time when I should have
been doing homework assignments. That was when it
first came out in 1990.

Respectfully,

Yep, I ran into trouble with my commanding officer once for having Keen loaded up at my computer on base one day!! He just shook his head and then sat down and started playing it too!

Hmm, I ws only 7 when WC1 came out? Boy, that is a long time ago, don't know if I knew to appreciate the greatness of WC at that time already. I played it on 8088 (is that the correct name? the thing before the 286) from IBM and boy, WC occupied more than half of the hard drive (and we had to choose the "save space" option). Anyway these old machines are HEAVY. The keyboard seems to weigh as much as my brother's mini tower. And how huge (physically)the hard drive was: 20 MB being large as I, don't know, two modern hard drives. But it was amazing nevertheless with the PC speaker.
But Keen was also much fun to play, although I did play only 2 or 3 games and I do not even remember which one. And I have to admit that I haven't played it for, let's say, 8 years?

Little did LOAF know that it was to become one of two life obsessions... :)
