I'm about 4 hours into it myself. I never really cared for the MGS series - the first one was alright, the second one was awful - but this one is really, really good so far.

I still perfer the original Syphon Filter though.

I didn't care for MGS2 either. I didn't like having to play as Raiden for about 2/3rds of the game and I didn't like or understand the ending.
