just downloaded the remake

hey i was wondering since i just now downloaded the remake, i used to play the original game years ago. and it is running so very slow the mouse barely moves. and it runs really slowly i was looking for some info as how to make it run faster. im not using a joystick, since i dont have one so i have it set to run with the mouse.
 
You probably forgot to get the newest OpenGL drivers for your video card...
what video card do you have?
probably an ATI or nVIDIA card
any card purchased after the year 2000 should run at about 40 frames per second (faster than you can tell ) so unless you're running really old hardware (in which case you should turn down the rez) you should get new drivers

if you want us to double check just open bin/stderr.txt and paste out the line with a bunch of OpenGL extensions GL_EXT GL_ARB
you'll see it...it's the only line like that in theee text file...paste it here and we can give you further assistance if you haven't downloaded the openGL drivers
 
to play privateer you MUST have a joystick... without a joystick it wouldn't be privateer...

look in some shops, cheap joysticks doesn't cost much....
 
Hey: I'm a keyboard kowboy to the kore ;-)

anyhow... I think he means that his game has a slow framerate--in which case he should make sure he has good drivers

I played the original with no joystick for months. It wasn't very easy. :)
 
I used to play the original with no joystick....I played all WC games with no joystick and I never had any trouble for years....now I'm downloading the remake and I plan to use this Saitek X45 I have sitting here :D

as far as wideo cards i have no clue, and where, and how would i get the OpenGl drivers. Im not to good with computers, but i know somethings. thanks for all the help so far.
 
You've got an ATI video card... and proper drivers installed
though perhaps your drivers could be newer: check out www.ati.com and click on drivers to get the latest....
you also probably want to run setup and turn detail down to low... and resoution down to 640x480 (you can try turning detail up a bit after that works ok)

another big killer iss 32 bit color--you cant ry it with 16 biit color
 
ok i tried to download the newest drivers but it said the connection was refused or something. And when i turned the detail to low, the screen to 640x840, and the color to 16bit it still ran slow, but it was a little faster. So i have no clue.
 
Is this an ATI rage? is this a laptop card? they still should run ok though...

I once ran into a computer where VS was inexplicably slow--the only way I was able to fix it was to reinstall the machine-- it was some windows problem like a virus or spyware...
tell me how old the stuff on your computer is... I'm guessing you should get at least 20-30 fps
 
im guessing the computer is like 5 years old, it has a new harddrive, 512 ram, and its a pentium 3. all the other stuff im clueless on.
 
ya that's pushing the system requirements a bit... definitely turn off per pixel lighting... change it to specular only...
change rez to 512x384
 
ok well im gonna try and install it on my other computer its alot newer, and much faster so i hope it works on it. but thanks alot for all the info and help!
 
im so very close on just giving up on trying to play it all together, it wont even work on my newer computer at all!! so i give up
 
do you have video drivers on the new computer--that is not a sure thing....you'll need to paste that line from the new one too

it should get 50 fps on computers with video cards of type Geforce2 or newer or Radeon or newer
