Just a few questions

Vagabond

Spaceman
I just had a few questions. Since, as we all know, finding the Kilrathi Saga is impossable, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to burn copys of the CD's and sell them to me. Seeing as Origin isn't selling them anymore and not loosing money by this, I can't see it as being illeagle. Is my thinking correct on this?

2nd, the Escort Carriers, such as the Tarawa, is that the same design as the Victory? I can't find any pics of an 'Escort Carrier'.

And just a side note, is it just me, or does the Hari sound like the Zerg? Hive socioty, lacking jump drives, moving from planet to planet using all the resources....just a thought :)

Asking for, or discussing about Illegal sites or copies of games is the same as asking for lots of trouble. So don't expect anything here about that.

Eep! Will we ever see these questions end? Piracy is bad and in no way endorsed or even tolorated at the CIC. If people asked about piracy any more then they already do CIC should seriously consider putting a message on the front page Piracy is bad!!

The only problem with calling that piracy is that Origin is not loosing any money on it and there is no other way to get it, so i am not sure I would call it piracy.

Hmm, I guess if I go over to CR's house and steal something he doesn't use anymore, then I guess it isn't stealing. Heck, Bill Gates has billions he doesn't use, I guess I'll rob him since he won't mind since he isn't using it.

Different, since I am not taking any money or anything of worth out of their hands. Your examples are stealing something of monetary value but today KS has no monitary value to Origin sinse origin isn't using its rights to the game thus making it in my opinion public domain

It's just something they made and sold. What is up with people constantly justify stealing that which does not belong to them. Just because you think Origin should give it for free does not give you or anyone else the right to steal thier merchandise, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT SELLING IT! Asking them to release it over the 'Net for free is one thing, just taking it illegally is BS, plain and simple.

Illegal within the US maybe...but not everywhere, and also people are not taking any money out of their pockets by doing that, if anything auctioning them on E-bay is just as bad I fail to see a difference except that from e-bay people get 200 bucks off of it and between friends no money exchanges hands. Finally, just becuase something is illegal does not make it wrong, there are many things that are illegal which I see as moraly right

For crying out loud, it is not the same as if they sold their original copy on Ebay (It is their copy!!!!). It is Illegal to sell burned copies on EBay, though. Letting a friend borrow your copy is not illegal. It is illegal to burn a copy for your friend. And even if you disagree with it, guess what? It's still not legal.

Actually, burning a cd and giving it away is not illegal in the us. It is only illegal to distribute over IIRC 100 copies of any copyrighted item. this is why one can copy a page out of a book from the library if you need to for school or work work. so if a friend of mine was to do so it is not an illegal activity, it would be if he/she was to charge me money for it, beyond paying for the cds and other expensise

Actually you are wrong there once again. It is Illegal to do that. What you are talking about fall under completly different rules and you must give that as a reference. According to you I could copy Deus Ex or any other new game 99 times and give away all those copies and each of the people I gave it to could do the same. It is illegal to distrubute software without permission of the company that made the software with a maximum fine of 250,000 if I remember right. You are only allowed to make backup copies for yourself and not even that for most things.

I think that you are wrong, I remeber reading that about a year or two ago congress passed a law stating that as long as one does not have the intent to prevent whoever ownes the rights from making money, and you are not making money yourself, and are not making beyond a certain amount of copies (I thought 100 perhaps I was wrong) one is allowed to copy a program or anyother copywrighted material.

How do you think that origin would have to make new wc's if we burn cd's and they miss a lot of money making it (maybe there are some games around, but money is money).

And how do you dare to call yourself a Wing Commander fan ? WC is good, not evil.

The thing is that this would not in any way take a dime out of origin's coffers. And if there was a new game produced then that would be removing money from them and thus illegal. Origin won't re-release it, and Yes WC is good and I never said that it is evil.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you are the company's spokeperson now. I guess that you have final word on all their decisions and can call them up whenever you want. Do me a favor, call EA, tell them that you want to burn a copy of KS and give it to friends (but less than 100) and give them your full name and address. I'm sure they will appreciate it.

No, that is ilegal, we can argue about if givin away a copy of a game that is 10 years old is aceptable or not but it still ilegal, The copyright of a game never end, You can make a backup copy for your use only, but you cannot give any copys of the game no matter how old the game is.
That is the law.
Until it changes, it ilegal to make copys of the game unless if it is for your use only.
