John Paul Jones Class Frigate Renders

Seems to be a bit tall for it's proportions . . but that's a minor issue. I think it's a good no-nonsense design.

I don't know if I want to say that the ship is to small. I am not too familiar with the WC timeline so I don't know which frigate BANDIT was talking about and when it did appear.

What I do know is that some ships tend to be smaller and meaner due to technological development.
Modern destroyers for example beats the crap out of WWII era battleships and if I haven't got it wrong the Battleships where a LOT bigger.

So I would still call the ship a frigate.

Merry Christmas everybody! :)

In the context of the WC universe, with the frigates first shown in-game in WC4 (though in the WCU timeline the Caernarven class has been around for decades, Blair in the WC4 novelization noting they were an old design even during the Kilrathi conflict) the proposal is too small. While modern water-based navies put frigates at the smaller end of the ship size scale, that's not where frigates fit, in WC.

I'm referring to the Caernaven-class Frigate specifications included in Wing Commander III's Victory Streak manual.

I wasn't really clear -- frigates in Wing Commander fall into roughly the same place in the line of battle that they do today (or at least as they did in World War II)... it's just that their role requires that they be larger ships. Cruisers and destroyers are primarily armed with energy weapons... whereas frigates rely heavily on stores of expendable missiles. They also sometimes double as armored transports and command ships. For these reasons they're physically *large*... but still wouldn't go head to head with a destroyer or heavier.

He already changed it to atack corvette.
Could be better off as a light destroyer, though.
The basic shape is cool, but the traight up sides with curved corners look unwc-ish.
