ISDN or TNC?

In wc3 and wc4 we had tnc with barbara miles, what happend to it in secret ops? was tnc overtaken bei isdn, or are both broadcasters are running at a same time?

I see no problem with having multiple news networks. One just has to look at countries' national news broadcast networks here on Earth in the 21st century.

Yeah, in the UK alone we have

BBC News
ITV News
Channel 4 News
Five News
Sky News
CNN

to name but a few

Other posters are correct--if we can have a thousand different news channels on Earth today, we can have plenty more in a galaxy with thousands of inhabited star systems.

That said, I'm not sure TNC and ISDN are the same thing. TNC is a TV ('holovid') channel similar to CNN/MSNBC/FOXNews while ISDN seems to be some sort of space-internet news service. The news reports are text-based and references to their archives are about downloading transcripts rather than holovids.

There are other news channels in Wing Commander, though! Shotglass watches the 'Confederate News Network' (CNN--hah) in Wing Commander I and I /think/ there's a 'Terran News Network' at some point (WC3 official guide maybe?). Bear gets into an argument with a holo-reporter from 'United Broadcasting' in Fleet Action (that may be a company rather than a channel).

We also see a whole host of futuristic wire services (which may be what ISDN is), including 'Confed Wire' (Kilrathi Saga), 'Confed News Services' (Kilrathi Saga) and the 'Terran News Services' (Claw Marks).

Claw Marks also mentions the 'Terran Confederation Armed Forces CommNet', which may be something along the lines of Stars and Stripes.

(Privateer 2, naturally, has a host of news sources including its famous newspaper, the New Crius Examiner.)

We have only one channel that gives "honest news" regarding politics, and real news. Commercial channels can give you the info on certain things you are personally interested in.

Celebrity gossip we have about ten channels for, and they all hate each other so they spread gossip about the other channels, and then you have the RSS feeds from the Media centre, and all your(US/UK/German) channels to look at.

So is "Epic Beard Man" going to become the next US president?

But let's keep it to WC, it's not likely people at the front would see direct news without the military command looking into it. It's very likely they would filter out all "bad news" to keep the morale high.

We do actually see a mix of bad or critical news on the front lines in WC occasionally. The Barbara Miles reports that reached the Victory almost all have a worrisome tone (to match the desperation of humanity in 2669). One report even refers to the news media fighting Confed's censorship: https://www.wcnews.com/holovids/lost_wing3.shtml

"Despite recent losses in several densely-populated sectors, Confederation spokespeople insist that Humanity maintains the upper hand in its galactic struggle with the Kilrathi. However, our sources document a consistent underreporting of Kilrathi incursions, as well as civilian and industrial losses. There are even reports of Confed plans for a 'doomsday' evacuation of Earth, replanting the seeds of humanity in a distant galaxy. The question is... who would go? Who would be left behind? And, most importantly, who is making these decisions?"

"According to pilots in numerous sectors, the Kilrathi have ceased the time-honored practice of taking ejected pilots prisoner by plucking them out of space's vacuum and tractoring them aboard support ships. Instead, they have been firing on the defenseless flyers, murdering them in cold blood."

"In other news from the front, we at TNC have confirmation of a strategic withdrawal from outlying confederation sectors. Confed sources suggest this is part of a larger operation to give up sectors of minor importance - - in the hope the Kilrathi will spread themselves too thinly across the galaxy. but independent sources suggest there is little strategy behind the withdrawals: only an improvised response to the advance of the enemy. This is Barbara Miles with a TNC InfoBurst."

"In this week’s top InfoBurst, Confed forces have liberated the enslaved population in the Cabrea system. But the Confederation has clamped down on all vid-transmissions from the system, citing ‘the interests of Confed-security.’ Independent sources, however, report that conditions within the system are so horrific that Confed has concluded freedom-of-the-press must take a back seat to the psychological harm any news releases may do. TNC believes that you the viewer have a right-to-know at all times. Therefore we are currently taking action to combat this clear case or restraint"

"Despite Confederation denials, TNC now has independent confirmation that the population of Locanda IV has been all but wiped out -- victims of Kilrathi germ warfare... And unconfirmed reports suggest that this is not the first time the Kilrathi have unleashed bioweaponry on Confederation civilians"

Accuracy of your local news reporting aside, try to make it clear what's meant when 'we' is used. The Internet is international, 'we' is not universal in this context. :/

Sorry about that, you are right, with "we" I mean the residents of my country.
