Speaking of high system requirements, here's the preview card for Wing Commander 3. This ad was included with the release of Wing Commander Armada, three months before WC3. It advises fans to double check their specs and make sure to get ready for the most demanding game ever! The front of the ad is pictured with the Armada Strategy Guide (ultimately released as the Playtesters' Guide) in the first image, and the second shot shows off the back of the card, plus the WC3 guide advertisement.

The fall, Origin releases the biggest game of the year - Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger - starring Mark Hamill, John Rhys-Davies, Malcolm McDowell and Tom Wilson. This Origin Interactive Movie will requirement 8 megabytes of RAM and a double-speed CD-ROM drive. Is your system ready?

Funny, If you call the 800 number listed in the second picture it appears to have been taken over by an adult converstaion line.

Haha, this was in the news recently--some company bought up a truckload of old 1-800 numbers and redirected them to their adult 1-900 line. (It just affected some politician in that hah-hah way the internet loves.)

Now speaking for all the thirteen year olds who got this upgrade notice with Armada two months before Wing Commander III came out... ARGH.

The card really should have mentioned that 8MiB RAM was a minimum and that missions would load noticeably quicker with 16. I remember the half hour waits.

16 was a huge luxury in 1994. People were having to double up just to reach 8. We all had those long long long waits... but I don't remember ever minding. I can't imagine such a thing today. I get annoyed if there's a detectable wait for something to save, and I'm the guy who installs every xbox game to his hard drive to save 10 seconds on bootup.
