So, I get through Tayla's first few missions, with no major problems, only one restart. Then comes the last mission: right out of the pirate base, I'm getting attacked by about a dozen talons and centurions. I've tried it several times, but no matter how I try to fight or flee, I'm quickly killed. I can't get rid of the mission, and I can't upgrade my ship on the pirate base... is there anything I can do, short of starting a new game?
 
Try this. You can abort the mission from the mission computer then leave the base. Save up, by better equipment and then come back later to take the mission. You can save the game and then see that you can abort and then come back to it. I had to do something similar on one of the oxford missions,

Personally... I just ran like hell. Eventually made it to the jump and was home free from there. After that mission I had enough to buy a better ship so I did then kicked those guys' butts into scrap.
 
I dunno why that didn't work the first time I tried it... I'm ok now tho, thanks!
 
All you really need the pirate missions is a demon with an afterburner, and yeah you can outrun them no worries. *edited out spoiler*

The demon was a goodship for me all the way upto Oxford Mission 3.
If you want cheap $$ to buy a centurion fast, just get a tractor beam and do rescue missions, cant get much quicker cash then some of those :)
 
Hmmm. I greatly preferred a well equipped demon through the whole thing. When compared to the Centurion its extra speed and smaller size beat the Centurion's marginally better firepower and shielding in my opinion,

I wonder:
a) [important ;)] I failed one of Masterson's missions. Any chance for me? I've cheated my way to the library (I've edited the savegame;), but when I arrived to Palan, I found nothing relevant. Can I anyhow re-try the mission or cheat my way around so I can get to the monkhouse? I didn't save before it - it was the escort one. Eventually, where is the monkhouse, if I actually can get there with just access to lib without finishing masterson's missions?
b) Where do I buy Dralthi ship? And in fact, I've found only Drayman, Tarsus, Galaxy, Centurion and Demon ships ... where do I buy any other?
 
a) you can edit your savegame and reduce the number next to privateer_campaign
this will move you back in the campaign...but you can never move forwrad....
b) you're only able to buy civvie ships
