I finally beat WC1!

First time I beat WC1 was the Xmas that KS came out. I haven't been able to play any of my WC games in a while cuz I don't have a home PC on which to use them. Really sucks.
 
I know the feeling. I spent weeks rigging my old Pentium 3 to run Privateer and Strike Commander and the like. Once I did it was only about 4 months before that PC was sold in exchange for an Athlon with Windows ME. With Windows ME, good bye DOS.
Haven't played Privateer or Armada or any of the others since, that was back in 1998. I sit here waiting for the day that someone will get JEMM running Privateer in XP. :cool:
 
When i first played wc1 i had no joystick... That makes the game a hell lot harder, and you actually can't fire while making turns. Nevertheless, I managed to fininsh the game after much effort, and I somehow saved the Ralari in Kurosawa after one lucky try. But the funniest part was when I played it for the very first times, and I had no manual, so I didn't know about the autopilot. Therefore, I had to fly all the way between the nav points (they weren´t very far in WC1). So, in the second mission, where you escort a drayman with Spirit, she died while flying alongside the cargoship in the asteroid field. I was really SAD after that, and I thought the other pilots would hate me for that, I gave the AI a lot more credit.

Pretty fun times.
 
Agreed. I only ever played my original Wing Commander on an old lagging 286 with just a keyboard. Was very tough when I think about how I can play it now with a joystick and on Pentium 4.

I really intend to ressucitate (sp?) my old pentium 233mmx, with Dos/Win98SE. Within it, a Voodoo 3 3000 and a SB16. Perfect for older games. Privateer, TerraNova, Independence War 1, MechWarrior 2 series... Damn, the closest I get to playing a space sim nowadays is MechWarrior 4. Nice game, by the way. Oh, Freelancer was a good game too. Kinda shortlive though.

I like other space sims, though. I enjoyed Freespace 1&2, Iwar2 and the like. But WC is still the best.
