How do you pronounce Firekka?

My take is Fire-eckha - given the importance "Freedom Flight" places on fire in their religion-slash-culture.

LOAF - don't You think it would be kind of asinine for a foreign culture to name themselves after the word for "fire" in a language they would not come into contact with for thousands of years?

It's as if aliens claimed Earth should be pronounced "ee-aarth" because ee-aarth means computer or whatever...

I personally pronounce it fur-wreck-uh. . . but grammar rules are on LOAFs side with this one (vowel positioning in conjunction with long and short sounds) ;).

Of course - but that's pretty much par for the course for the SM2-era writing;) (That said, who's to say that *they* call themselves Firekkans... the Double Helix and the Nephilim were both given names in our language - Firekkan may just be a translation of some sort. Freedom Flight certainly plays up the relationship with fire.)

Yeah, it's just a translation. The Japanese don't call their country "Japan." It's what English speakers call it (same for Germany and everything else).

I agree - Japan, however isn't called Japan because the word Japan means something in English. I'm simply saying that though Firekka might be a humanism, the causality of the name isn't likely lie in human linguistics.

I do however agree that grammatically it should be pronounced "fire". But when has grammar stopped SF :D

I think fire definantly plays a major role in the name. Freedom flight's explains quite a bit about firekkan culture.
