Hobbes funeral and Wing Commander 4 difficulty.

The holovids section mentions the Hobbes funeral as a movie you really can't see anywhere in the game. But I do remember seeing it one time, when I was on the losing track, and hobbes got shotdown in the defense of a jump node. I believe I got on the losing track when failing an escort mission or something like that, but I am not very sure. Anyway, the 'Trigger' had not been send at that point... But then again, not a lot of people get on the losing track so early in the game, so mabye it just does belong there.

One thing that does really bug me is WC4. I've managed to get hold on a CD-version on the flea market... 6 cd's. Oh my god. BUt the problem is... I am now doeing my first laser camera recon mission. And I keep getting shotdown. Missiles are apperently VERY deadly in WC4, and that kinda bugs me. They apperently have the ability to punch trough my shields when they are full up, which is a game-breaker for me. Anything that can be done about that?

Well, aside from using decoys, take out the missile turret on the ground first before any of the fighters even...

Adjusting the game's difficulty level also can help since they won't use missiles quite as often.

Missiles are absolutely lethal in WC4, but I suspect that was intentional (although the design documents could well be somewhere on this site and proving me wrong...).

I'm reminded of your first conversation with Hunter in WC1 - "That's always the way isn't mate, just you an' some hairball manoeuvrin' for a missile lock. Uniforms, formations, that's all sheep-dip. All a bruce can count on out there is 'imself and 'is missiles." - paraphrased from memory.

I find the judicious application of afterburners in collaboration with decoys does the job nicely. It's also possible to shoot their missiles down by going head-to-head with them, but it takes practice. You'll get the hang of it sooner or later. Good luck!

Usually I carry along a rack of ImRecs, and one of Leeches. At each nav point, an IR for the turret as soon as you come out of autopilot accompanied by some gunfire, and a Leech for a defending fighter, to even the odds.

Lord knows the Hellcat can use better odds, even against Vindicators. :p

You're definitely right. Hobbes funeral can be seen if he dies whilst you're on the losing path.

The only mission where you can see Hobbes' funeral is Proxima 1; any other losing path series (Delius, Blackmane-L, Tamayo-L, etc.) still gives you the option of turning things around (and it can't be the very last losing mission, Sol 1, since you don't return to the Victory).

If that's the first, I suck(ed) hard :p.

Anyway, got past the missile trouble, toned down difficulty to Veteran, and changed my flying style. I do notice that there are A LOT of missiles in the air on Ace, so I am ain't turning back until I grow confident again :p

And oh boy... I am really going to play WC4 again. I see all those alternative paths...

IIRC, back in '95-96 there was a "hacked" saved game going around that let you watch Hobbes' funeral. Not sure exactly how it worked...
