Finder of things, Doer of stuff
Given that one day Mr. C. Roberts could allow a group of computer animators the task of altering certain choice scenes in the WC movie as well as a few that were supposed to be there, What would you think about supporting a special edition of the movie. Before replying I sugest you read these fairly detailed descriptions of the deleted scenes from the movie. You can find them at internet movie database:

http://us.imdb.com/AlternateVersions?0131646

Now im not talking directors cut here. As so many people need to point out the current version is the directors cut. But Imagin a la abyss special edition laserdisc and dvd, that he alters the movie to what he originaly intended. He could use CG to replace kilrathi (think final fantasy spirits within quality) and fix other technical goofs. Replace traitor sequence.

I'm deffinitely interested. What would you give to have a copy?

P.S. Please, please dont reply with why you hated or liked the movie the way it is. It's been done to death. Start (or maybe you better not ) a different thread for that

Sure I'd drop the cash to buy it .But I have a tendency to obsess on these things any way, you know the I have to have every version thing

I strongly dislike 're-edited' special editions -- I'd like to see the missing scenes as a special feature on a DVD, but that will never actually happen. (For one, Chris Roberts thought they didn't work... for two, FOX isn't likely to produce another WC DVD).

I'm with LOAF with this one. Only me, I say what's done is done and am looking ahead for the next Wing Commander movie/show....

I'd say that a redone movie wouldn't really help either. If your going to take such a route, it would be better to simply make another. (Not that it sold well enough to do so) That'd enable you to tailor it entirely to your views, not just choice pieces.

exactly

Well here's a thought.
Does anybody know when the film rights revert? And to who?
James Cameron said he would never do T3 or T4. But then Carolco, now defunct, gave the rights to someone else. If the WC film rights revert Chris Roberts he could take them and shop a sequel around to other studios.
I have since dropped my WC2 crusading mantle, no pun or reference to the game intended. However I have taken a somewhat optimistic stance on the subject. Could there be another movie? Sure. Don't hold your breath, but it is possible. We'll just have to wait and see.
Personally, if I ever get into the movie business that will be th first 'vanity piece' I do:D
So here's hoping and praying it'll happen again. All we can do is let Chris know we still support the franchise fervently.

Chris *has* the movie/TV rights for a bit longer... but after those expire, there's no reason for them to ever revert to him again.

Regarding the DVD, while seeing the cut scenes would have been good, I'd have really been happy with a DVD package that doesn't lie about its content. I really wanted to see that French version :(.

I was under the impression that he didn't think the kilrathi suits worked (which could be fixed with computer cats) and then after cutting the cat scenes thought that the traitor stuff didn't work or was confusing.

I would like to see the movie it it's original structure before cutting and rearangin, but with replaced cats. Thus see the context of the deleted scenes. Then I could make my own opinion about the scenes.

Granted not all special editions (example: indepence day) should have been released... but there are some that work, like the Abyss and Aliens. Now what I imagine is a dvd with both versions. The original theatrical version and a special edition version with "deleted scenes" and enhance fx's. all on one or two disks. You could chose to wattch the "new" scenes all by themselves if you choose. Plus other extras (use imagination here).

Granted we may never see it, but hey... what if..

Maybe someday they will do it to capitalize on the huge returns being made on the new movie coming out in... well have to wait and see I guess.

I could have sworn that CR said that he wasnt going to be doing any sequals to the WC movie............

In my single email exchange with Chris Roberts he stated that he would like to try digital character animation on the Kilrathi. He also stated he liked the removal of the traitor subplot to allow him to make it the story for the second WC movie.

It's remarkable the things people swear Chris Roberts has said. I don't believe he's done any interviews since before the movie premiered -- and so I doubt he's commented on the Kilrathi, on whether or not he'll make the movie, on whether or not he's read Wing Commander novels and on whatever we'd care to attribute to him.

I don't know if you were refering directly to me, LOAF, but the email I got from Mr Roberts was posted some time back (August 24, 2000) on the CIC. Just in case you forgot or something...

Ehh, actually, I was referring directly to the other two people in the thread... hence my mentioning of their specific claims. :)

I know Chris wanted to use the traitor in second movie -- he talked about it when I asked him the question at the premiere Q&A session <G>

If there really were plans for a second movie, do you think Chris Roberts should direct it, or should they get someone else?

The games were directed by him (mind you they were something like 10 hours lond) and were good. But I think the movies problems had a lot more to do with scripting than directing.

However it would be really cool to see what would hapen with the material in the hands of say James Cameron, Stephen Speilberg, Ridley Scott, or my personal Fav: Michael Mann.
