Head Museum Open For Visitors (November 25, 2005)

The CIC has a chilling secret. Hidden deep within the server we have a collection of severed heads for our amusement. And now you can check them out too! Although characters in front of particular in-game backgrounds might be preferred in some situations, the CIC Head Museum might help out anyone experimenting with CrazyTalk. You can always paste the characters on top of different scenes as well. We have four sources for heads: the first two DOS Wing Commander games, the Japanese Claw Marks and Super Wing Commander. Hopefully these come in handy for a wide variety of fan projects. Make sure you check out the Japanese drawings if you haven't seen them before.

While it's been a long time since I've looked through WC2 files, I do believe that there are actually no Lieutenant graphics for WC2 - the only Lieutenant to appear in WC2 was Bear, and IIRC we don't actually see him in uniform during the game, only in flight suit.

How cool! :)
Is it just me, or does Spirit looks a bit too much like Kikyo? (Inuyasha) :)

Never played WC 1 or 2, but it looks like WC1 heads look better than 2... (not including the other special heads from that other version of Wc2) Anyone agree?

Quality wise... nah.

Aesthetically? I think they're both good... except wc1 spirit. But I prefer most of the wc2 ones (although I like the wc1 blair and paladin and maniac more)

I think the WC1 heads were more "unique". Although most of the faces were pretty much just facing the screen straight on, some of them were positioned in various other ways, giving them more personality. Angel must have a fairly sore neck from constantly tilting her head like that... but she sure does look more lively that way.

In WC2, on the other hand, every head is held at the same angle. Indeed, when Minx shows up in SO2 with her head tilted differently, I actually thought there was something really weird and wrong about her face. Of course, there was a good reason for it - unlike WC1, in WC2 people would at times change uniforms and such, so the heads needed to be standardised in order to allow the easy placement of one head over a bunch of different bodies.

Quarto is right on. A lot if not all of the heads from WC1 each had an angle they would typical be tilted at. Gave it a bit more of a dimension than the straight on look from WC2. Both were great of course. I did, however, like the Blair (Bluehair) from WC1 better than the Blair from Wc2. He looked too fat in WC2. :)

I always thought Blair in WC2 looked like he was a decade older than the one in WC1.

Oh, wait a minute :p.

I don't know, he doesn't seem to have aged much between his trial in 2656 and his adventures on the Concordia... it's the Tiger's Claw incident that added all those wrinkles :)

Hehe, yeah, it's a pity they had to give up on including WC1 Blair in WC2 (or maybe not... I guess it would've been confusing for some people). You know, that scene that only ever shows up as a screenshot on the KSaga box.

I think it's originally from the... WC2 Deluxe? box. There's also a weird-ish rendering of a Gothri.

Here's Blair:

I'm not sure what the actual point was -- it may have been just that an earlier WC2 featured the same graphics as WC1 for the characters, and the "office" interview was originally in front of reporters.

Possibly, I guess it would have been neat if they used the WC1 Blair for the office interview and then the 10 years later, used the WC2 Blair to show that he had aged somewhat.

There is? Neat, can you post it? Come to think of it, it would be cool to have the box art for "deluxe" and other alternate editions of the various WC games in the CIC's background section.

Yep, anything's possible, considering how even the WC2 demo used the WC1 space engine. Whatever the case may be, I like how they actually bothered to put the Lt. Colonel insignia on his shoulders, even though he never had any insignia in WC1 - it's a neat little touch.

Remind me in a month -- I don't have any boxes here at school (well, I have a Wing Commander 4 Macintosh in French box, which I found at a local flea market... I have no idea how it got there).

It's a strange little picture... mostly, I suppose, since the Gothri gets so little attention in Special Operations that it seems odd for it to be in a cutscene (I don't know if it's even a cutscene picture -- it might just be a straight up rendering of the source model).

I would like to collect nice scans of all the 'weird' WC artwork online -- the Super Famicom box, the FM Towns' WC and WC2, the German WC1/2 Guide, Action Stions and game novelizations... the Czech novel covers, the European Privateer 2 box... that sort of thing.

Righto. I must also remember to remind you about checking the 3DO FMV to see if it can identify the Hellcat's designation.

It's wing commander 2 deluxe, that box art, i just picked it out of my bookshelf.

I never understood why that picture was there, since it never appears ingame.
was the original scene was replaced by the demotion tolwyn gave you in his
office, as he commented the "ridiculous claims about a kilrathi cloaking device"

the wing commander 2 demo i have seen included thrakhath flying a bloodfang
and talking to the emperor about the destruction of the tiger's claw. is there
anything intact about the trial scene except for that one screenshot?

still reworking WC1 blair to a semi-sidefaced version of him for the WC2 intro,
seemed more logical to me, the extra size in the game would not matter, since
the game(originally on floppy including speech pack) was way to big on your
harddrive for computers those days. i had a "common" system (25 mhz 386/sx
with 2 megabyte ram, soundblaster pro and a 40mb hard drive) in those days,
and i just had enough space for dos, windows and wing commander 2. imagine
a game that would require 100GB of hard drive space in this day.

I don't think the aging would look confusing, having a rookie turn into an old vet in ten
years, since it is stated in the next scene at olympus that ten years have passed. it's
more confusing about the cat's flying off the same carriers, and none of the characters aged a second.
