Gunners who can shoot

Wedge009

Rogue Leader
Okay, so I finished of WC2 last weekend, but one thing which I don't remember having seen before was in the Rapier mission with Stingray where you strike against two Dorkathis - the second one jumps in-battle.

Twice I had to do this mission, in the first time, the second Dorkathi jumps in and hits me with a rapid, straight burst of laser blasts. It was so quick that my comp froze when I died. In the second attempt, I got hit by the same blast, but was only heavily damaged. After that I just hugged the tail and blasted its engines.

Did anyone have trouble with those transports before? 'Cause I certainly don't recall gunners shooting that accurately before.

Yeah, I remember that sort of thing happening. Normally, they'd just scatter a certain amount of flak, which never seemed to hurt anything, however one or two seemed to really pack a punch. I always assumed that there were 'special' Dorkathi with some sort laser turret, but I don't know how true that was. All I do know is that it hurt bad.

Nope

That's the mission where you (or Stingray, don't remember) say that a Dorkathi carries 1000 Kilrathi marines in a cutscene soon after take-off, right?
If it's that mission I have to disappoint you, I never had problems with the Dorkathi.
But I admit that their flak could be fatal.

Remember that a ships guns are all forward just after jumping. I had to repeat it also, but anticipated it the next time, and thrusted out of the path of gunfire.

That's the thing, until last weekend, I never had any problem with the Dorkathi either. But it's good to know it's not just me, it seems some others had a similar experience.

It happened to me on that mission where you go chasing after Minx when she steals the Morningstar. After flying through several nav-points packed with fighters and mines, I had to finish off two Dorkathi. The first was no problem, and the second was just about dead when it blew me out of the sky with a massive burts of laser fire. Doh!

Best, Raptor

Odd, Wedge, I`ve also been playing WC2 again, just yesterday, and I ran into the same problem with that mission as well.
Happened only once, and the second time around I got it with no problem. Maybe it has something to do with the speed of your PC?

BTW, Blair says that each transport carries a 1000 troops, not Stingray.

Oh, and one other thing: I did not forget about the WCP music. It`s on the way, just give me a couple more days.

My guess too... it might have happened to me once as well, now that I think of it... it was so fast that I died seconds after getting in-range of the Dorkathi...

Re: Re: Gunners who can shoot

PC Speed? I doubt it. I was playing on my trusty 386. ;)

Maybe you're getting old and should retire from active combat. Leave it to the fresh and young. ;):)
Eh? You know I just turned 20...

Right, I'll have to watch out for that too, then. But I haven't suffered any rapid blast there either. Actually, that Dorkathi blasting me the first time and freezing my comp was quite scary, come to think of it. I got blasted so fast that I don't even get a death scene!

Damn right, Mekt!! :D
(there's a faint possibility however, that you won't say that anymore in a year... :p )

Buah, 20! That's really too old. Leave it to the 19-years-youngsters like myself! :)

Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.

Very faint possibility only. ;)

Oh and pendell: LOL! It's nice to see you old guys acknowledge that you can't beat the youngsters through a fair fight. :D

And that's the main difference between oldsters and youngsters. Oldsters fight to win, and that means we know better than to fight fair.

[WC3 Blair mode] : Gee, don't they teach these kids to fly anymore? [/WC3 Blair].

:)

Yeah! I'll deal with my conscience after you're dead.

p.s. 19 huh? That's still way too old to be a Japanese Mecha pilot :P They've got to be, what, 15? 12?

Yeah, victory at any price, I see. Of course this doesn't appeal to me, since it contradicts the Kilrathi honour. :)

15 to be a pilot? SWEET!
btw, 19 might be little too old for the flight deck. Leave this job to those that still have their abilities AND MIND! :D
