GameVoice NoGo - will System Commander work?

I was pretty disappointed after spending an hour programming my MS Sidewinder GameVoice for Prophecy. The commands don't get accepted (they do get recognized by GameVoice). I guess the way WC gets keystrokes is too low level for the Game Voice to work.

I'm just about to buy a Sidewinder System Commander for my left hand, to be able to map all the commands to button presses. I wonder if it will work and be able to insert keystrokes, or will it also get ignored or bypassed.

Anybody else ever use any utilities or devices to remap the keystroke commands in Prophecy?

all the best,

First off, what's a Sidewinder System Commander?

Secondly, wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy Game Commander 2 to achieve your goals?... Let me know.

My mistake - I meant Strategic Commander

Sorry - I meant Strategic Commander not System Commander.

I bought MS Sidewinder products out of fear and loathing, expecting them to have the best compatibility now that I'm running XP. In my closet I've got two old sidewinder joysticks, one "precision pro" which isn't precise at all, and one Force Feedback Pro. The FF Pro is no good in XP because XP won't support profiles for it because it is on the analog game port instead of USB.

Now I'm using Sidewinder FF 2 with GameVoice. I used to play Privateer (1 and 2) and WC with thrustmaster FCS/WCS and like the ability to not use the keyboard at all.

The Strategic Commander is another Sidwinder product for the left hand. It is intended mainly for RTS and FPS, and can be adapted to flight sims. The only problem is the FF2 is designed for 2 hands also, with the throttle and four buttons. But 4 isn't enough. With the Strategic Cmdr I can get about 24 programmed keys per profile, and there is a profile switch to switch between three profile mode. In Prophecy I might have one profile for the nav map and one profile for flight/combat. Another Strategic Cmdr feature is that you can twist it, and I'm hoping I can map it to autoslide.

I hope it works for Prophecy when I get it. I'll let you know. It has gotten some great reviews.

Does Game Cmdr 2 work for Prophecy? My Game Voice works for all the other games.

all the best,

Wait...
WHAT!!??

Does XP not support game ports or something? Does it only allow joysticks to be used with USB gameports?

The original Sidewinder FF Pro came with profile software which let you reassign buttons on the stick to keys, but the software only works in Win95/98/ME.. not in XP. The joystick itself still works but you have to put up with WCP's default joystick button assignments.

Yes.
Buuuuuuut...
a) You need a supported soundcard (really full duplex compatible - old AWE cards for example have problems even they are full duplex).
b) For my above mentioned AWE I encounter the skipping movie bug when I use GC2 together with WCP. Usual fix works however.

GameVoice will work for WC

I downloaded the Version 1.5 upgrade from gamevoice.com and it now works. I just have to pronounce the words a little strangely to get them to be recognized. My neighbors must think its pretty strange hearing my saying "auto aawe toe aahh tow" trying to avoid reaching over to the A key. Is it worth it?

I've got a force feedback 2, the button software worked, but it's pretty buggy in XP. i think they recently reboxed it for XP users.
