Sorry for a dumb question i've just bought Kilrathi Saga from ebay but no instruction's with help from the webby and blind luck i've got it pretty much figured out, except.....i start the 1st mission fly to the 3 nav points destroy the targets then return to tiger claw, i have requested landing and its accepted, but where do i go or what to i press to dock? Thanks in advance

You need to head for the landing bay... when you get close enough the autopilot kicks in and lands the ship

That should do it :D

yeah, you just have to line up with the flight deck after request clearance and it will land you when you get close enough.

Had the same problem myself the first time time I tried it IIRC.

It should look like the view in the upper left of this image:

i used to get so annoyed sometimes, i had that problem when i bought offa ebay but i worked it out thankfully

used to get a rare thing where i requested clearance and got it, headed to the bay and hit the shields, so annoying.... :P

Yeah, just line up to go to Claw's "face", and decelerate to 100 approximately, for autolinker is somewhat glitchy, it just can "not notice you", so that you fighter will ram the Claw, and 100 kps is the speed which ensures your survival.

Yeah, that happened to me a couple of times :)

I must say, there was something really neat about having to approach from the right side to trigger the auto-landing. The later games definitely lost something when they allowed the player to auto-land from any angle (not to mention, when they removed comm system damage-ability... man, that was great, coming back to the 'Claw and trying to get through with your screwed up comm system to obtain landing clearance!).

Yeah, I really liked being able to take my craft into the hanger and have to slow down before the tractor beam lands the ship. UE had something close but you could come from any angle (though you would usually hit the phase shields were somehow are a large distance from the carrier. I am really amazed how the Phase shields got messed up like that.

Hehe, I do agree in concept - little realistic elements that make the game harder are always a plus for me... but in this particular case, Origin was flooded with calls asking exactly this question back in 1990, killing manual landing for all time.

That's a nice detail... How did you find out how to land without comms?

IIRC, you were never actually completely without comms. Even if your comms were marked as destroyed, you could still use them, if you kept trying long enough. Just like in WCP - even if your guns are "destroyed", you still have a 5% chance that they'll fire.

I loved it too but I think the way you had it in WC3 and 4 was ok too: you could land manually if you wanted to but were not forced to do it. The automatic landing in WCP and SOPS was lame...and the automatic landing in Priv sometimes even a real problem. :)

Oh, and the damage system in WC1+2 was sooo great. Who wasn't annoyed when your rader screen cracked. :)

I can't believe that - I mean, quite often the carrier was already at the right angle.

I have no doubts - we still get the question e-mailed to us *constantly*... and this is 17 years after Wing Commander I was the best-selling game ever.
