Galatic Races

The games, however, do give us a diffinitive look at the Firekkans, Mopoks, and then a brief glimpse of the Stelteks . . . oh, and the Kilrathi.

Definatly wouldn't call the Kilrathi look "definitive." There were a bunch of species in the games themselves. However, most were just primitive cultures that ConFed had to protect, and really didn't play in on the galactic scale at all.

Agreed. Most of the races were uninteresting primitive races. However, the Steltek interested me the most. As we saw in Privateer ***SPOILER*** when a single drone ship was able to attack an entire Confederation Fleet on it's own, it makes me wonder where exactly these Steltek lived and if they ever had any wars of their own, and how they managed to avoid any conflict with the Kilrathi.

Considering the Steltek left our part of the galaxy millions of years ago, it's not hard to see how they avoided the Kilrathi. They, like the Nephilim, seem to have the ability to create new jump points, so they don't have to be located ANYWHERE near known space. We've found their ruins all across our part of the galaxy, along with a few artifacts.

talking about the steltek, do anyone have a screenshot or can get one of the steltek scout pilot talking? I cant remember what a steltek supposedly looks like

Here's [a Steltek] lookin' at you, kid.

Edit: And yes, that image is already full size :p.

Giving that the steltek are so far advanced (they seem to be even well beyond the level of the nephilim, which their jump points require some type of mechanism to keep them open) the steltek are able to create jump points it seems at their will. I don't think it's mentioned if the kilrathi ever found any artifacts, although I'm sure the steltek had colonies near their area of space. Although, like all ancient races in most scifi, the steltek just had to have their mars colony :)

The Steltek should be aware of the Nephilim.

Actually, it looks like the bugs are just servants for a master, be it another race or the "mother creature". And they are not the only ones, since there are other "aligned" races.

I think the Steltek may be on the run from super powers like the Nephilim and who ever they serve. How quickly did they come to collect their ruins and get out of the Gemini sector, not to mention our Galaxy as we know it?
Also add in the fact that the Steltek also showed that Privateer of our's how to remove the drone. Obviously they are good aligned race, or perhaps so desperate to return to their hiding spot they helped the Privater so their business could be over sooner.

I wouldnt say they are "good aligned"
They might as well have destroyed the privateer if he didnt fast-talk them
AND they used him simply cause they didnt have the weaponry (or time?) to deal with the drone. They probably figured the privateer and his piece of steltek tech would be destroyed in the proccess
which is one thing that bothers me, that they would leave Burrows with the gun, when their objetive is exactly to get hid of all their tech and make sure the younger races dont touch them
quite a failure, considering Righteous Fire
Unless they were the ones who bombed the Eden temple as mentioned in that other thread :)

I think once they steltek had given burrows the upgrade for the gun, they probably returned to where ever area of space they now occupy. They can create their own jump points but it is unknown exactly how far of distances they can create them over (ie going from Sol to Kilrah in one jump).

. . .Or were they just thrown in . . .
Well, I wouldn't call the story basis for a whole WC game (and part of the story for another) a 'thrown in' concept, but (from memory) I don't think they are ever mentioned again in a WC game or manual.

They certainly *knew* about the Steltek - as they were one of the groups chasing down the map in Privateer.

Nah, they were acting in their own self interest - they didn't want the technology contained in the drone to fall into our hands, so they enabled Burrows to destroy it.

The original plan was for there to be a scene of a Confed fleet bombing the temple. I think it was cut for space before it was completed (unlike the "Steltek exit" scene cut from Privateer).

Steltek.....Are they part of the original WC bible? Or were they just thrown in for "super"-tech and a story arc for Privateer?

They were introduced for Privateer.

They're referenced here and there: in the ICIS Non-Human Analysis document, for instance. The Confederation Handbook gets a good Steltek reference - suggesting that the Scylla anomaly may have been artificially created for easy transit from Vega to their Mars colony.

Nephilim and Mantu?

Are these two races one and the same? It seems odd that the Mantu are built up and up as about to return during the final years of the Kilrathi/Terran war and then they don't but the Nephilim do.
Someone help clarify this?

It's discussed in WCP's ICIS Manual. The Mantu were a peaceful-but-powerful race that the Kilrathi attacked and lost a war with... they'd been demonizing them ever since. The Mantu are not a threat to anyone else.

any chance you got info on what exactly was on those 2 scenes? and what would be the "Steltek exit"? a scout opening a gate and moving out?
and btw, other than the TCH, any where else mentions the steltek able to create their on jumps? from what it seems, they can create permanent jump points and not just open a gate and get in or out, or even the artificial gate struture the nephilim use
whats the case here?

It would be interesting if one of these "long lost superpowers" were to return in a future WC game and help out with the Nephilim if/when they actually send a real invasion force (wasn't it said the force in WCP/WCSO were merely scout forces?).

Well, Privateer ends with the Steltek Scout towing the Delta Prime derelict away... it was originally to be followed by a scene between a Steltek Captain and a Steltek Officer where they basically go "What about the gun?" and end with "Well, how much damage can one privateer do?".

The proposed ending scene for Righteous Fire was, IIRC, a fleet of Paradigms pasting the Retro planet. I've seen some storyboards for it, but I don't think it got any further than that - there's no reasonable place to put it in the game, and disk space was limited.

In Privateer (in the Scout and ending sequences) the Steltek create their own temporary jump points - seemingly wherever they choose. That's where that bit of lore comes from.
