Forgotten WC4 scene

Rogue Leader
Can someone remind me where this is from in WC4? Is this a console-only scene, 'cause I can't remember where I got it from.

Whether it's in the PSX version, I can't be sure, but it's definitely in the trailer. I know because that's where I got the screen cap from a couple of years ago, and had on my WC site back then. Obviously someone liked it and held on to a copy... ;)

(And since I'm sure someone will ask, yes I'm sure it's the one that I capped, because I "mark" all my caps so that I can tell when someone nabs them without asking permission. Just don't ask HOW I marked it.)

Nab without permission? I wasn't intending to pass it off as my own.

[Just wondering, would re-JPEGing it (ugh) get rid of digital marks? And now I know where it's from, I'm taking it down.]

I'm about 95% sure that it isn't from the PSX WC4 edition. I speculate that it's unused footage that was meant for that edition though. It looks something like the "Extraction Of Scientists" mission early on in the game, but the PS edition lacks all those land-based missions as it couldn't handle the draw rate with planetary missions.

I'm going out on a limb and assuming they made the cut scene much like they did for the land based missions for PS WC3 and then opted to not use it and replaced it with that shitty "Photograph a space station" mission.

You're most likely right. Since the PSX version had a space-based "photograph a space station," mission, it was probably meant for the ill-fated 3DO release....

Sorry.

Yeah, well, I never intended to leave the pic on permanently, and even if I wanted to put it back up... I'm at uni, at the pic is at home.

It's not from the PSX version. It's just a scene that doesn't show up in WC3, like the two magazine covers...

Absolutely no problem...couldn't care less. Screen caps and the such are not my primary concern when it comes to others lifting them. I mean, realistically, ANYONE could get screen caps. And given that this one is ancient by comparison to others I've done since...

Using original artwork I've created without permission, OTOH, is another matter. I still come across WC sites that are using the faction logos and tech headings from the Aces site I created. I even found one site a couple years ago that was trying to pass of some of my ships (including the images) as their own.

It's not a digital mark. I actually put something into the image to identify it. Now, I use a transparent logo, which is very plain to see and very difficult to remove. See the WC movie caps on my site for an example of this.

But back when I capped that pic, it was more a matter of adding little things here and there in the image, things that would appear to be part of the pic, but I knew were my additions. Sneaky bastard, eh? ;)

WC3? Not WC4?

Okay, but if it was a digital mark, would re-compressing the image kill it?

You'd have to remember what exactly you did in each pic then, wouldn't you?

Not sure. I'd have to look into exactly how the digital watermark works. But my suspiscion is that, no, it wouldn't, beause the digital watermark affects the bitstream, and likely is protected from alteration.

I used a fixed set of changes, so I only had to remember a few.

What is the difference between the PC version of WC4 and the PSX one?

I sold my PC version of WC4 ages ago ( yes , I am a dickhead ) and I have been desperately tring to find it again since. All I can find is the PSX version at the local Cash Converters...

Is the PSX version worth getting until I find the PC version??
