Yesterday (Monday, September 14, 2009), I got Fighting Steel in the mail, because I ordered it on Amazon. Do you need the CD to play Fighting Steel? Also, does the game require a CD-key to play?

Because the forum itself tells us the date on which you've made your post...

...it is unnecessary to specify yesterday's date, because anybody who wishes to know that information can simply infer it from what's already provided by the forum software.

As for whether you need the CD in your disc drive to play, or whether there is some key-based copy protection, that's probably written on the box, as well as other places like the manual (as Sylvester pointed out).

Fighting Steel is pretty old, so I would assume whatever copy protection it may have would be pretty straightforward. I'm sure everything will become clear the moment you put the CD in the drive and try to install.

Could these posts be some vain attempt to boost google ranking for his forum? I think it's obvious by now that this guy is just joining random forums and posting random off-topic stuff to indirectly advertise his forum, but I just can't imagine it being worth his time... Maybe I'm just trying desperately to apply logic where there is none to be found?

Worth his time? Take a look at the forum, his supposed age, etc. etc. etc. How valuable do you honestly think his time is?

I don't mean to imply any value to his time, merely that he must have noticed by now that he's not getting any more activity on his own forum from this...

The post date doesn't help if your talking about something that happened on a previous date.

Yes it does. I can easily infer what date "yesterday" is by simply subtracting one calendar day from the post date.
