yay

What?! I am appalled! Hawk has always looked like a rather old and battle-hardened fella to me... Panther, on the other hand was always looking all young and healthy. ;)

Col.Dom: Have you played the WC4 demo? IIRC it was a gauntlet in which you flew the Hellcat V against endless waves of enemies. As for F-15 v F-16 I hear things get really nasty when the Navy comes round ;)

I actually never got to play the WC4 demo. I wanted to when the game first came around, though.

And yes, it does get pretty nasty when the Navy shows up; always trying to upstage each other

well Blair wasn't just really good, he was REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY good. As in he had saved humanity a bunch of times... well not in the first one... well... okay.. uhm... let's just pretend it *can* happen

1. Blair became the 'Saviour of Vega Sector' or something cheezy like that after he wiped out the Vega Kilrathi High Command starbase.

2. Blair became the destroyer of the Sivar and the avenger of Goddard after he took out the new Kitty Superweapon, and this allowed confed to develop the Phase-Transit cannon.

3. Blair was the liberator or defender of Firekka after he repulsed a major assault, saving the Firekkans from being sacrificed during Sivar-Ershad (is that how you spell it?)

I actually never got to play the WC4 demo. I wanted to when the game first came around, though.

It was fun, especially when you grabbed the Stormfire out the back of Dekker's shuttle... You could also set the time left from 5 minutes to 30 using a command line. fun fun.

Col.Dom: I think its possible to download the WC4 demo from the files section. At least that's where I got it all approx 2 years ago.

Ghost/Eder: Well if Panther is older than Hawk, she's aged quite well then :) However Hawk has been through a rough time :(

Who says it was only him? We only saw him get promoted because we were seeing hte world through his eyes.

Wasn't Angel captain in the first opus ? She is a colonel in the second one, so she was promoted !

They weren't as good as Blair, who is one of the top 11 aces of all time (see WCP Players' Guide).

Whooo ! The others should have been very good, cause I toasted hundred of kitties during Blair's carreer :D. Who are they ?

I know it's just me but I would have loved to see a Wing Commander game where you could make a career of being a Hellcat V pilot :p

I wouldn't mind it...if it was "WC Falcoln V" :p

Blair is #10. Maniac is #11. THe rest are unkown, and were fighting Kilrathi way before Blair jump into his first plane. They came aces during the time when shield technology wasn't good, and the Kilrathi m.o. was kamikazi (sp/) attacks.

Hey, look who's there! :) How's studies and life in general been for you lately Sadic?

Well, quite good !
After summer vacations, I completed my studies and now I am working near Cannes for the next six month. A great place : the sun, the beach, the palmtrees  ...
In fact, I read the posts once a day, but I don't post so often...

Well why then only Blair????

TigersClaw was full of expirienced pilots with talent!

I know that Roberts did that just to become the game more interesting , but in the wc univerce , there is no explanation for that!

How many pilots do YOU know of that are specifically mentioned by the opposing generals when discussing the fate of a ship full of aces?

Emperor: "And what of the human pilot who has caused us so much trouble?"

Thrakhath: "The humans blame him for the disaster."

This is from the conversation between the Emperor and Thrakhath when the latter reports the destruction of the Tiger's Claw (chronologically shortly after SM2).
In short, according to the game, Bluehair is so good in the cockpit that the Kilrathi Emperor holds him somewhat responsible for what happened in the Vega Sector, and is keeping tabs on him.

Didn't they say that the Iceman was up there as well? It's been so long, I can't remember. But if my memory holds anything for me, I think they did. (And he was like #7 or something.)

Meson wasn't speaking literally, Sadic. We see plenty of other pilots and officers promoted throughout the games. Angel isn't the only one.

The WCP manual says that he racked up 367 confirmed kills in his nine year career, that's far less than Blair or Marshall.

Caseay calls him "one of the most decorated pilots" in a cutscene though.

Hi,

Maybe Iceman was just really mission focused to the point where he didn't chase after kills (IE - during escorts, he stuck to the transports and only shot down any Kilrathi that got too close) or maybe he was a medal hunter instead of a killboard watcher?

Cheers

Well, IMO kills are not what makes you famous or *decorated* (best example: Maniac:D)... more likely you get famous/decorated for playing a key role throughout entire campaigns, in very important missions, by endangering your life to save/protect others' life (and that more than once) and last but not least by showing that you are an extraordinary skilled pilot AND a true "team player"/team leader(Shotglass about Iceman: "...a true artist...and completely deadly..." IIRC)... and I think that's what made Iceman famous, not his "367 confirmed kills".

exactly.. Imagine the poor hack who kills all enemy pilots but always 10 minutes after failing his mission objectives. He rids all the enemy, but his charge that he was supposed to protect/ escort always gets destroyed. He never eleminates the enemy blockades in time for the convoy. He always selfishly goes for the easy kill while his wing man is blasted apart... He never brings baxh the recon info... and the list goes on and on.

Now if someone can acomplish all this and has a high kill score... thats different. But theres more merit in players that are consistently reliably good Than ones who are randomly lucky.

Besides, Iceman's career was shorter than Blair's and Maniac's. I'm sure that if he had been around for another decade he'd have at least doubled that number.

Randomly lucky?
Erm... Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't all luck random? :p

Furthermore, I think I, as blair, racked up somewhat more than 200 kills back in WC 1 all by myself, and I was rather decorated. So, seeing someone with fewer kills than I (assuming a similar kill ration in all the Secret Ops and Missions, and Wc 2 ...), I'm just happy to be decorated. If someone else is listed a better pilot than I, there's probably a reason. So, don't get bent out of shape because of it.

Finally, (mandatory Arrow statement here...) If I were playing Maniac Missions, I'd hate to be stuck in the Hellcat. The Arrow is just a much better ship. :p
