I didn't find the Vesuvius all that cool. Looked like a big tin box. WC2 style shields (or a decent interpretation of them). Turned way too damn quick to nail those turrets (because the stupid game engine allowed most of your shots to pass through the turrets). I love the bug capships. Taking down turrets and whatnot. . . and then knocking out bridge and engines. Good good stuff.
 
The Vesuvius was a lousy ship if someone could fly a small fighter into its hangar, fire a few dumbfires, and blow the thing to Hades. Even the Ranger took more than that to defeat.

What's there to not know? The par girl in Privateer has a cute face and large busoms. Any guy has to find her *somewhat* attractive. Maybe she just floats Loaf's boat. Not uncommon at all. Though, I'd prefer the Mercenary guild girl. mmmmmm

Vesuvius

Exacty there were two Super Carriers under construction.
The Mt. St. Helens (finished except a few hull sections) and
the Vesuvius (status, testflight).

Personally I think, they were the try to match thefirepower of an light battleship with the flexibility and agility of an fleet CV.
... poor little bastard, if she had to fight against Plunkett Class Ships ( are these the new Dreadnoughts??) ´cause she can´t run, she can´t hide and she can´t win.

As I remember, Plunkett Class vessel carries 18 F/A 105 Tigershark.
I think that´s enough to protect her until Plunkett disables the lounch bay with it´s main batteries. I think Vesuvius would be able to lounch 10 or 12 fighters before the flightdeck is blown to hell.
And don´t forget the 22 twin laser trurrets. they CAN be very nasty.

Sure a escort of two CVEs would buy them much more time to do the job. :)
