I still haven't read End Run or False Colours, but personally, I see something very fishy about the speed with which Bear was given command of a capital ship, when just a year earlier he had been a measly Lieutenant (or was it 2nd Lt?), who did nothing significant whatsoever, except take part (note that I say "take part", rather than "lead", as Forstchen, and Bear himself, seem to impy) in a mutiny.
Also I find it contemptible that he agreed with Tolwyn about engaging the Kilrathi ships even after the Armstice had been announced. Whether or not this decision later proved advantageous, is of no significance. The fact is, they had no right to do so, and had Bear been a worthy officer, he would have handed in his report of Tolwyn's actions to the President (or whoever) that very same day.
