The image doesn't work, but it's nice to see that it was filed February 13, 1979. The most high tech airplane have 26 year old technology.
Makes you think what the stuff they made out last year looks like.
 
It depends how you define "high-tech". (And given that the patent is expired...).

You'll find most military planes have long development times - the F-22, which is just on the verge of being deployed, has been under development since the early 90's (to replace the 60's designed, 70's released F-15). Heck, even the F-16 dates back to then as well.

It's a very secure job, in various nuances :). Of course, planes are always upgraded - avionics especially (there weren't so many MFD's back then...).
