Ep 3 Mission Question <spoiler>

Hi, i got a question reffering to a ep 3 mission (the one where you meet with the concordia pilots and then go for a ralatha->snakeir), it should be no. 13 in the "good" branch.
Well i downloaded Standoff yesterday and really liked the "old" feeling of it so i decided to go for nightmare. So far it worked out well but right now I'm having really frustrating probs:

- in nightmare with rapier everthing works out, but always the crossbows get gunned down too fast, i always get the "retreat message" at the snakeir nav, doesn't matter if i first kill all fighters or all turrets or mix it up, I'm through all of it by now ~3 times
- in nightmare with gladius it seems a bit harder because figher hunting takes much longer but ralatha goes down faster if I use 1 torp. there (but it would be better to use both at the snakeir later on I guess), but also here most of the times at least 2 crossbows go down before the first navpoint is clear

Ok - so after the (i think) 10-12th attempt with the same prob i just told mysef "well i'll do it in rookie" because i was getting frustrated..

- in rookie everything pops like nothing but still i lose a least 1 crossbow before the snakeir, sometimes even in the first approach
- at the snakeir nav point I'm out of enemies after some minutes but even if I spare my 2 gladius torps sometimes the crossbows just don't get the snakeir down, last time (the rookie try) 2 crossbows were alive at the end and seemed to be empty, at least the were not firing any torps at the snakeir which seemed kinda lonely without fighter escort ;)

anybody having the same probes? I think i will solve it by taking the gladius and just wait next time until 1 crossbow manages to hit the snakeir with 1 torp. and do the rest on my own but i was wondering if I'm doing anything cruelly wrong here ... or is it just my luck

greetings

in the 2nd rookie try it worked without any probs (but rookie is a sad solution in my eyes), so if any of you guys has too much time plz test this mission in nightmare and tell me about your crossbow wingmen, especially when you fly the rapier.

First, congrats on getting there in a single day on nightmare, that's quite good !

This mission was designed to be very, very hard. IIRC in the novel the Snakeir isn't destroyed but damaged, so we expected most players to loose this mission.

Keep in mind that although it's normal that you prefer to win every mission, it isn't necessary to enjoy Standoff. The key to stay on the winning mission path isn't always mission success... and even so we put lots of efforts in making the loosing path interesting and fun to play. ;)

About the difficulty setting: I suggest that you try out Ace next time you want to lower it. It has the best game balance.

thx for the answer, i will try to keep that in mind.
and btw., ep4 mission1 (sabre, yeppa!!)was really one hell of a fight (the radar at nav 2 looks really funny at the beginning), great job :)

And for the difficulty .. well lets just say under my desk i got a 486dx33 with wc 1 + secret missions + wc 2 + mission packs and i still play them from time to time ... and especially wc1 secret missions the difficulty is absolutly insane in some missions *g*
I also got wc saga but i like the old sounds more, thats why i'm using the old pc mostly for playing them.

i love everything so far, keep up the good work :)

is the mission tree available anywhere?
I flew the hakaga mission right now and the bombers killed everything but the hakaga (we killed all turrets but again no torps. left on the sabres/crossbows were all down if i recall it correctly) but since it was really tough for me getting there (rapier in nightmare, i had no chance in a crossnbow the try before) and my ship looked like a piece of junk i really don't feel like flying it again right now.
I'm really interestest in how this affects the mission tree if i let the hakaga live - did you guys post it anywhere or is it top secret? :)

greetings

edit: ok, big ~~~ :)

i just thought "well lets try to nail the hakaga" and loaded the mission and switched to ace, i also took the crossbow because i thought maybe i can get some torpedo hits in.
I flew the whole time in circles around the hakaga because half the enemy force seemed to be hunting me *g* but in the meantime confed pilots toasted everything even incl. the hakaga (at the end of course)...
the only thing i killed in this mission were 2 fighters and about 20 turrets. Ah yeah and we only lost 2 Fighters, all crossbows survived. So playing cat and mouse works absolutly well in this mission, just a hint ;)

I believe Wedge did mission trees for the Ep4 winning and losing paths. If you do a bit of searching in this forum you may stumble across some others. I believe they were posted in September or October.
