EA Replay- anyone have it?

Hey guys, I bought it yesterday... The controls for WC suck and syndicate doesn't look anything like the computer version I remember... At least Road Rash is still fun.

Has anyone figured out how to actually target and lock on to a fighter in WC? I tried all sorts of combinations and nothing seems to work.... It sure is hard to shoot at guys when you don't have that little red box around them hehe. Especialy when they are so small.

I totally misunderstood this post. Let me start over...

WC is known for having complicated controls when it's put to console. I remember taking half an hour to figure out how to send comms in WC3 for the Playstation (I bought it used and it came without a guide). Just keep at it and after a while, it'll be second nature.

Syndicate on EA Replay is the SNES/Genesis port. http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/syndicate

But how good is Syndicate for the SNES, then? I'm looking foward to play it on a the PSP (the hard part is actually buying a PSP first).

The controls get fairly intuitive once you get the hang of them. See http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=20934

Just hit select or start to lock on when the targeting VDU is up.

It's still pretty hard to send comms while actually in combat.

I must say though, the game is just as aggravating as I remeber it eing on the snes. But even though, it's still fun to play.

Chris is right though, play it for an hour or so and the controls become second nature.

My only complaint about the WC port is the audio emulation, it doesnt sound good at higher levels. I don't know if it's just the PSP speakers or not (haven't tried headphones yet) but it pops and crackles alot.

From what I remember, its good - but much more simplified than the PC version. They had to make it more "console friendly" I imagine.]

The Cover of Syndicade is awesome. OT: Is it just me, or the covers of the old games are much, much better than the new ones, in average? The covers of my Intellivision cartidge boxes are almost invariably more interesting than of the games I've been aquiring as of late. I don't remember buying a game with a cover like this in a while.

"Console friendly" is a concept that used to scare me, but I guess I'll give it a try. I remember I found the SNES version of WC to be quite cumbersome, but I never gave it much effort. I think it's just a matter of getting used to.

While it has been quite some time since I fired up Syndicate on a console, I remember the only thing that really bothered me was the blockier graphics. The PC had really sharp details, while the port seemed to be more akin to staring at your monitor through a magnifying glass.

I'll try the game out tonight if I remember.

True, as I remember it, Syndicate was a very early title on hi-res. I really loved thise, because I could use by EGA card on all its non-interlaced glory. Low-res game like Wing Commander had to be played with interlaced 32-color graphics.

Maybe the blockier graphics won't matter on the small screen.

Hehe oops i'm blind... I didn't notice that part after I looked at the link he posted. I was scrolling all through there to figure it out.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh yeah, old Origin box covers are wonderful:

I guess Start is pause. It's just Select.

I am having issues with the lock on as well. I mad sure my autotargeting VDU is up, and I hit the start key (that pauses the game) Select does nothing. Note I am still using the simulator, just trying to learn how to use it.

You can't lock on in the simulator. In space, you have to hit Select when the game is not paused.

I understand the controls, but I have been playing WC for almost an hour and I can not seem to get past the frist misson. Trying to center the ships is extremly hard. Any one here get past the frist misson or has anyone even destoryed a ship yet.

Yeah. Have you tried the simulator? It's easier to destroy ships there, and so it's good practice. Are you using the analog stick or the directional pad? Don't push the stick all the way. If you make slower more controlled movements with it, the ship will respond the same way.

I just got past the 1st misson this afternoon. I took most of what you told me and add one thing I read in one of the books that came with the game. I would do a dead stop when Kilrathi ship was right behind me, let him overshoot by me then just started blasting away. It worked too. I got 3 kills. I saw that Spirit did not get one kill at all. Odd. but now I have a better grasp on the game. It is going to be harder then the PC WC, but then it took me playing the PC one 30 min befor I could complet the 1st misson. I kept getting hit by astorids alot.

Congratulations. And be careful. One asteroid hit is enough to take you out in the SNES/PSP Wing Commander.
