REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug 7 (Reuters) - No. 1 independent video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. on Wednesday said it has started a partner program with record labels that will include placing some songs in games before they are released on albums or as singles.

Electronic Arts said the EA Trax program includes songs by rap artists like Snoop Dog and Method Man on upcoming basketball, football, hockey, soccer and stock car racing games.

The Redwood City, California-based company said the program's first song will hit stores next week, with the debut of a Bon Jovi single entitled "Everyday" on the soundtrack for "Madden NFL 2003."

Among the labels taking part in EA Trax, the company said, are well-known names like Capitol, Interscope, Dreamworks, MCA and Island/Def Jam.

EA said the new program may include co-promotions with the labels on both CD and game releases, and said compilation discs will be issued featuring game soundtracks.
