dreadnaught

On the other hand, those terms can get confusing:
when the midway has her new shiny, stolen alien plasma gun, She could at that moment be considered as a dreadnaught.

Just turn of collisions and fly through it. You may be disappointed -- the 'fly through' aspects of the losing-path specific ships (the dreadnaught and the asteroid base) seem somewhat broken, possibly because not as much time was spent testing them.

Yeah, I've tried it and was terribly disappointed that the belly of the beast wasn't detailed more fully. Then again, given the time and effort it takes I can't blame the creators much for that one

Somehow I don't think so... is the plasma weapon even operational? (after they use it)

I know what you mean, but look at the bengals, they are very well armed, but they are still carriers...

I think it was a sily reminder of the bettleship era to name a ship as dreadnought or battleship if they can carry 120 fighters... I know they have VERY HEAVY weapons, but they are carriers, their main weapons are fighters and bombers, I'm I wrong here?

The Tiger's Claw may have been heavily armed, but she was never meant to take on enemy capital ships by intention. Her armament was designed to reduce the number of escorts that she required in battle. Her strength was in her spacecraft complement.

I believe thatthe Confederation class dreadnought was designed to effectively fight at all ranges. A complement of spacecraft for very long range (BVR) attacks and effective close in defense. The Phase Transit Cannon and AMG battery for anti-capital ship combat. The latter, if I remember right, could also be used against attacking fighters and bombers. Point defense lasers for anti-fighter and torpedo work.

As for what was the Confederation's main weapon, I would say that it depended on the situation and range. For close quarters battle, it probably would be her PTC and AMG battery. For a strike situation like K'Tithrak Mang or Vukar Tag, her spacecraft complement would be her strength. It's all relative.

Yeah, it seems more that he's too fond of the term 'dreadnought'. It doesn't really add much to make a point of saying it's this or that for a few hours on this day.

You're right in that if there's a ship that carriers a ton of fighters and bombers and those are its main weapons, then it's probably a carrier, however, the Concordia had a lot of fighters and bombers, and it was also designed to directly engage large targets as well.

Just like the Kilrathi super-carrier in False Colors. It was stated that it was never meant to have direct contact with enemy capital ships, but it was an even match for the two Confed cruisers that tried to tackle it together.

That's right... and IIRC, the KIS Karga had already lost all her escorts and fighters...

The Vesuvius and the Midway have VERY good capacities for ship to ship combat, but their main objective is to launch and maintain their fighters...

The dreadnought was built with the intention to go toe to toe with other battleships; it was supposed to be the most heavily armed ship on the fleet... The TCS Concordia and its sisters were supposed to be that AND carry a full wing of fighters, a hybrid design
