Doesn't work at all

I'm got a Athlon 64, 512 ram, ATI 9600xt, and plenty of other good stuff and I can't run this game at all, when I start all I see is green and red jumble. Oh I'm running Windows 2000. Any thoughts?
 
how long does the jumble last...
wait about a minute... then it'll go to the splash screen...

how do you quit the game?
is there text in the corner indicating load progress
also do you have the 4.9 or 4.11 ATI catalyst drivers 4.10 is horribly broken
 
I use 4.16(?) beta (HL2 performance). I don't see anything but jumble not text at all. The only way I've been able to quit is to hit my start menu key and then close it. I have waited quite a while for it to load. I'll try at it again.
