David Warner

Rogue Leader
Just thought some of you would be interested to know that David Warner was in last night's (Sunday) episode of Hornblower on the Australian ABC, playing the part of a British naval captain with a heroic reputation, but whose treatment of certain crewmembers were very Tolwyn-esque in nature. Hornblower and several fellow lieutenants were treated even worse than Blair was in the Enigma campaign! Anyway, this was later revealed to be the result of the Captain's mental condition, which was quite unstable (understatement). But it was also interesting to note that the Captain's right-hand man was named Hobbes.

I've actually got a copy of Lieutenant Hornblower to read at work right here... I believe it's the one upon which that movie is based.

Anyway, it's been out for a while -- you can get it (and the other A&E Hornblower movies) on DVD...

I SAW THAT!!!! I think Hornblower is magnificent! I love that show! Old naval terms and battles in the Indies are jolly good fun! :D

Warner's played quite a few interesting characters, but I despised Captain Sawyer!

Is that his name? I know it's been out for a while - I have no doubt it's a BBC production, but I thought it was an interesting point to make.

He was Tolwyn in the movie... he's also done hundreds of other things, as can be seen in his imdb entry!

He appears in P2 as well...
I can't remember the name of the character he played, and since I've just arrived at work, I can't check it :(

But I'm sure there are others in here who will add the info VERY soon... :D

David Warner has been in aload of sci-fi he's been in Star Trek V(the human diplomat on nimbus) and star trek VI (the klingon Chancellor) well anyway seening that Malcolm Macdowell got a contract with some TV series just as WC was about to start filming, David Warner must of seemed like an ideal choice,

The TV show McDowell got the contract for was the remake of Fantasy Island... based on scripts alone, it was no doubt a better prospect than the Wing Commander movie.

Probably A Good Thing (tm), since we'd have lots of freaks whining about how Tolwyn looks the same but everyone else looks different :)

David Warner and Malcolm McDowell are both classicly trained actors (though McDowell didn't care for his time at the Royal Shakespaer Theater Group) and have worked together on at least two projects I can think of: "Time After Time" where Jack the Ripper (Warner) goes back in time using HG Wells's (McDowell) Time Machine. Excellent movie, very much about social commentary and how removed we are in this day and age of technology.

They also worked opposite each other on Batman: The Animated Series. Warner was the voice of Ra's Al Ghul and McDowell as Ghul's lackey, Arkady. I don't remember the episode name or number but it was one of the last to air and one of the best ones they made.

McDowell did Fantasy Island in leiu of the WC movie, yes. But FI had an utterly fantastic writing crew and for the season it lasted, was the best damned show ABC had. I think you can catch reruns on the Sci-Fi channel or something. I remember McDowell complaining when the show was canned because he wanted to stay to film in Hawaii the rest of his life! :D

I remember seeing an ad for Fantasy Island a while back, why did it end up cancelled?

And is that the same Batman cartoon where Mark Hamill voices the Joker? Or is that another Batman?
