D-A-C Compared to Arena (December 2, 2009)

IGN has posted a new review of the awkwardly named Star Trek D-A-C (Deathmatch, Assault, Conquest). It's a top-down shooter for XBox Live Arcade/PC/Playstation 3 Network game that follows in the footsteps of Wing Commander Arena. Like BattleStar Galactica, the game doesn't allow quite as many people in multiplayer (8 in BSG, 12 in STDAC and 16 in Arena), but the addition of a second single player mode helped bump the review scores a bit. Note that this new single player mode is only in the just-released PS3 edition. The game is fairly pretty though, and probably isn't a bad addition to the game library for anyone who loves Arena and wants more in the same style. Thanks to Delance for noticing this one.

I kind of liked the concept of WC: Arena. I just never ever found anyone else playing it, so all in all it was just a waste of 800 MSP. Though that's a problem with a lot of Live Arcade games actually. Just play Halo 3 or Call of Duty.

Unfortunately that applies to almost all Arcade games.. only a couple of the top games each year will develop an audience big enough to have any staying power. Definitely not a waste of points though! Like is mentioned above, Arena has a much better single player than the other games like it, and you can always set games up here or in #Wingnut and arrange times to get groups playing.

Another note: Has anyone tried DAC on the 360 recently? Just after the PS3 release, there's a new *FREE* update that adds all the new PS3 single player content and upgrades the XBOX version to a "deluxe" version.
