Hello I just wanted everyone to know that Conquest: Frontier Wars Is having a beta test available here:

http://gamingzone.ubisoft.com/conquest/beta/login.php

Here is also a mod team that will convert existing moddles to Wing Commander types:

http://wcsaga.cjb.net/

In case you are wondering why, this is a game made by Chris Roberts himself and I thought maybe anyone would like to help out. Even though we are all fighter jocks at heart. I want my afterburner slide and true yaw back!

I sure hope it's good, and that is will have the WC feeling.

(In my native language I just said that it will feel like a toilet. :D )

It's sure got the WC movie ship feeling. :)

But CFW has about as much to do with Chris Roberts as StarLancer did...

Well the credits of CFW say Chris Roberts is the "Producer" and "Story and Scripts" and I know he wanted to add Supply management like it was in WW2, so basically he helped create C: FW.

... but you would be correct if you said he is not apart of the game anymore. It doesn't seem like Chris is apart of Fleelancer anymore either.

"Producer" means he's the guy who owned the company that made the game... he didn't actually *do* anything to develope the game.

Just the opposite -- by making him producer, the company selling Conquest can claim to the press that it's "from the creator of Wing Commander" :)

Good point, a name can bring in the sells, I was thinking more along the Hollywood line, where the stars get given producers credit for doing nothing (except making sure they look good in the flick).

They're a bit more political in Hollywood -- for a WC example, Neil Young got his name put as producer for the WC movie, despite the fact that he didn't have anything to do with it <G>

It's also for generating press, though... you can bet Jurassic Park 3 will have Steven Spielberg's name in the credits, despite the fact that he had almost nothing to do with it :)

JP3 will be made by Spielberg's company though won't it? So it will technically be a "Steven Spielberg presents". It'll be even worse for "A Lucasfilm presentation".

What about things like Lost Highway, where Trent Reznor got (a majorly hyped) credit as a musical producer, when bascially all he did was decide on a few tracks and record a NIN b-side?
