Confederation fighters

Just curious whether or not its possible to purchase confederation fighters, such as the Broadsword in this game? I've never played the original Privateer, and so far I'm stuck at Oxford Mission 3 so I'm not sure. If you can, where abouts do you buy them?

I just finished the original Privateer campaign, and after talking with Admiral Terrell in the Perry Naval Base I went to Perry's shipyard, and they had the Stiletto, Gladius and Paradigm for sale there...
