Confed Space Academy

Hello to everyone, it's me again :)
I was asked today: "Is Space Academy located at Earth?", and I couldn't find an answer.
Google isn't much of help, Yandex, too...

So, I do again beg for assistance, my dear expert friends.
Where was Space Academy located in 2672?

Like the modern military, there's not a single Academy -- there's different ones for different branches of the service. The Terran Confederation Space Naval Academy which Blair and Maniac attended is on Hilthros... while the Terran Confederation Service Academy which Tolwyn and Banbridge attended is in Houston (Earth). The Flight School Blair et. al. went to to learn advanced fighter combat (after graduating) is on Sirius.

(That said, here's another plea for those looking to create interesting fan fiction characters and good RPG settings... please, please, please consider something other than a Naval Academy for your background. As in real life, an Academy in Wing Commander is an elite institution which graduates a tiny number of students each quarter... in a war that kills billions of soliders a year, the huge majority of officers are going to come from training programs at regular colleges.)

Thanks a lot :)
And worry not about background :)

The Academy is needed only to be mentioned in "I graduated ..." conversation.
The whole thing will be in Kurasawa during the BW conflict

Again, thanks a lot

The Confederation overall probably has about a trillion citizens, given that we have seen in the maps that it is spread out over more than a hundred systems plus non-member frontier areas. While there tend not to be more than a dozen or so fleet carriers (2,000 pilots) in active service at most points in the war, there are also a number of second-line escort/light carriers, and it seems that most destroyers/cruisers (hundreds) carry some fighters, so we are probably talking about tens of thousands of pilots in the fleet, plus all of the station-and-planet-based squadrons. I would not be surprised if the TCSF/TCN had over a million pilots on active duty, which, given the life expectancy of pilots in the war, implies at least a couple hundred thousand Academy graduates per year--fully an order of magnitude too many for a single campus. I am willing to wager that nearly every system with a population over a billion has its own Academy campus.

I don't think anything we've seen implies that -- the best of the best travel from all around the world to go to *the* Academy (for their service).

... but as I said above, the vast majority of people wouldn't go to an Academy at all. It's a special, elite school -- not a meat grinder to fill all the officer positions in the galaxy... (which is exactly how the Academies work today).

You know what else? I, for one, am sick of people who graduated at the top of their class, it has become such a cliche! MjavTheGray, please don't have anyone graduate at the top of their class.

No, that doesn't work, either -- and we've also seen too many people who just squeaked by with soooo many demerits because they're such a bad boy.

Oh :)
I won't let anyone to be a top-graduate :)

One girl is an ever-clumsy one, who would never graduate at all if not her brother who's a friend of some Senator.

The other one quit studying for some romantic reason...

Worry not :) No aces in the script :)

How do you spend any time at all on the front lines during the Kilrathi war and not have at least 5 kills?

Fly on Maniac's or Maverick's wing, and have them killsteal the shit out of you every mission.

For every Chris Blair whacking a thousand new cat pilots, there's a Cat Blair whacking a thousand new Confed pilots.

Okay. So .... lots of Academy's campuses everywhere, that's understandable.
And what do we know of the other flight schools?
Those of lower grade?
Those in BW?

Any clues?

...And you just can't ALWAYS be at Blair's wing, as he spent ten years at Caernarvon,
and was the only pilot, transferred from the station to Concordia :)

I don't know, Blair's skill at whacking was so extraordinary that is caught the attention of the Emperor himself by the beginning of WC2.

Still the question stays: Can anyone tell Mjav about non-privileged flight schools?
Even if info would be from a fic - it's still be appreciated with deep thanks.

No one would talk about where they went to Flight School. Flight School is a ~four month program which teaches officers thingslike advanced maneuvers behind the 'stick of a real fighter. There could be flight schools all over the place -- Blair and Maniac attended one on Sirius, Tolwyn was originally going to go to one on the moon.

That happens *after* you're commissioned as an officer, after you've graduated from the Academy (or wherever else you've gone). If you're looking for an alternative to the TCSNA or the TCSA, you would just use an ordinary university. Paladin, for example, attended the Space Forces OCS program at the University of Cairo... Blair's father went through an ROTC program at the University of Kingston. You could take any real school or make up your own futuristic one.
