Cerberus: OO

my hold WC numbering system universe in my head had just been sucked into a gigantic black hole to an alternate universe, where I am right!!

I thought the CVX was to imply that it was a new "mega-carrier", not a testing ship, it was official, wasn't it?
I'm pretty sure that is correct... they wouldn't have bothered painting the huge X on the hull if they knew they'd have to remove it once the testing period is over, right? :)

I still think that's kind of dumb, do have an undesignated ship... I wonder if it's possible to change the game codes to put a 1 after the 0

umm well you could change the number by changing the texture.. theres no game code involved

'super carrier' isn't a designation -- Midway and Vesuvius are heavy carriers... Vesuvius' designation is CV.

In WC, CVS is the designation for a dreadnought.

Why then did they paint a big "01" on the Vesuvius? When it was CV-70 or 71?

hah, so they do use different designation procedures, perhaps I was right about the Midway after all, if not, I'll just pretend that I am anyway....

Well, I suppose the real reason was that the people who made those textures didn't realise that it was going to be the CV-70 in the soon-to-be-published book :). But in-game? I dunno, but there was no X, so...

I still like my idea of CVX and CVS. I like that numbering system, a 01 for the beginning of each class.

In 'reality' CV is a standard carrier, and CVS is an anti-submarine carrier.

In Wing Commander, just CV includes fleet carriers, heavy carriers, light carriers and strike carriers, CVS is dreadnoughts, CVX is experimental carriers, CVE is Escort Carriers and CVA is Attack Carriers...

Is that correct? I always thought CVN meant nuclear powered carrier and CV conventional powered...

Which is all just nutso in comparison to "reality":

CVA - heavy or fleet carrier (pre-nuclear era)
CV - heavy or fleet carrier (nuclear era)
CV(N) - nuclear-powered heavy or fleet carrier
CVL - light carrier
CVS - anti-submarine carrier
CVE - escort carrier
CVX does not exist
