Capship Components

I know some people didn't like the idea of a capship not going boom when only the engines where destroyed, but to cut out all other components would make it almost like WC2.

So I thought, maybe we could keep the WCP system, but have it in such a way that blowing all the components with one or two torps each would take out a capship, or have three to maybe five torps on the engine to be sufficient. The choice would be up to the player. That way, one could justify blowing the bridge as 'weakening' the controls on the engines, making it more prone to go boom.

Maybe I'm just being confusing...

Here is one, maintain the capship boom from wc3/4 with a huge boom and a blown out hulk left after. Next for taking out the ship I go with WC2 way of not having to specifically lock torps on specific componants, just have them target the hull and blow a hole in it.

Well for one thing, it better be a better hulk than the WC3/4 ones, and two, if you really want it that way, I think blowing through the exhaust ports should be more effective than trying to chip through the hull. Y'know, closing off hull breaches and all that.

I've always been big on a cap ship being REALLY tough to take out. Like needing a full out assualt of a squad of bombers to have any hope of taking it out. I've always been alittle upset with WC in that respect. A few torps with one fighter and you take a cap ship like it was nothing. I want cap ship fights to be more like in the X-Wing series of games, where taking out a cap ship was a big undertaking.

On the topic of Cap ships, I always liked the battles in Star Wars compared to Wing Commander more, with cap ships fighting each other, with fighters more as support craft. In Fleet Action, it says in most battles cap ships usually get nowhere near each other.

Yeah, well this is WC, where we throw realism out the window in the name of fun! :)

Capships should indeed be hard to blow up with fighters, but it doesn't work that way. Remember the Connie's PTC? Remember the Victory's escorts? Admittedly those battles never lasted long, but they were still capship battles nonetheless.

Hmm, about that axiom "If a capship is in range of your carrier, you deserve to die." Does that mean Captain Wilson should be dead as well? (Admiral Tolwyn has already karked it)

Did you know, that during WWII, our fleet carriers in the pacific never saw any other japanese ship, only their fighters.

True, and there was. It just wasn't very big. I think the reason for that was because the wc1-3's engines couldn't handle it. We do see large scale battles at the end of WC4 though. Those were fun!

True, besides there are some Capships battles in the game.
WC III had a lot of those. (a ConFed destoyer attacking a Kilrathi carrier)

Of course, someone will come along and say there were huge fleet battles in the novels.

;) There were huge battles in the novels...

Do you remember the big one in False Colors when those two Confederation cruisers (TCS Juneau + another) attack the huge Kilrathi carrier Karga?

Oh and Wedge, battles in games are much more fun obviously, and I think you forgot the huge fight between the Vesuvius and the St.Helens in the Price of Freedom... ;)

That Vesuvius vs St.Helens fight in the game is very nice, both ships are very fast and move quite fast, looks like a dance sometimes.
