BREAKING NEWS: Wing Commander III on GOG (September 13, 2011)

Stupid question time. Installed game but where is all this cool content?

Extras are:

- Victory Streak, Playguide, Reference card (all rendered digitally from Origin's source files--they're nicer than any scan)
- Origin's Official Guide to Wing Commander III (again digitally rendered)
- High resolution scans of the color "Warbirds" poster
- Origin's Authorized Combat Guide to Wing Commander III (scanned, by Pix)
- Wallpapers of the box art
- An mpeg of the "Behind the Screens" VHS tape.
- An ebook of Fleet Action
- PDF of the shooting script.
- PDF of the Wing Commander series bible.
- AVIs of the deleted scenes not included in the PC version--the various newsbriefs, Hobbes' hologram and a few others.

Tyrian is a GREAT arcade shooter and Beneath a Steel Sky is a classic adventure game. The others aren't anything special (I kind of wish I could remove 'Teen Agent' from my wall... it sounds kind of like pornographic spyware.)

Edit--you can get Ultima IV for free, too, which is a classic Origin game.

You have to download it separately--go to your GOG shelf, click on the game and there should be a list of bonus downloads under where you grab the game itself.

Well I said to myself yesterday "If I can fix the hat switch on my Logitech extreme 3D pro then I'll buy it". I fixed it :)

I already own the original CD copy but I'm getting it for ease and simplicity of compatability. I'm quite surprised it only clocks in at 1.6gig though. Is it possible to see how many times it's been downloaded? I'm willing to bet a lot!

Damn -- no trouble here, it's actually running more smoothly than I've been able to have it in DOSBox before.

Very odd I will have a bit of a play around music during game seems a bit off too maybe this is the same sort of problem seen with WC 1+2 on gog?

I haven't downloaded it yet, but if this is the Kilrathi Saga version of WC3 that was patched to use DirectX and work with Windows, then the issue might be with the sound acceleration. Go to run and type "dxdiag.exe" and then under sound, reduce hardware acceleration to zero. That may solve the problem with the skipping movies.

Its the dosbox version I must admit I dont have the first clue about dos back then i was an Amiga boy only got into pc's from windows 95 onwards, another odd thing i have noticed is that when i set the controls to mouse (I no longer have a joystick) tab no longer works for AB.

You can double right click and hold the mouse button to afterburn, dont know why tab would no longer work though unless it was intentionally remapped when set to using mouse.

I finally downloaded my own copy of the game :) Still, I was surprised to find I can't go fullscreen. Is this a permanent preset condition or can this be overridden?

You can either set fullscreen in the dosbox config file or you can just press alt+enter to both enter and exit fullscreen once dosbox is running.

Thanks much, AD :D

One last question. Overall, the game works surprisingly well, but I don't know how to set it to the joystick. If I can just find out how that works, I'll be clear for takeoff.

Once you are in the cockpit, hit Alt-o and select Joystick as your control option and then make sure you hit save before returning to the action.
