Blair in WC: Prophecy?

actually, the WC3 novel never specifically says he dies. it says something about him hitting the eject button hoping he wasn't too late to punch out. yes, blair and company think he died, but at the end of the book when blair is thinking about the people he's known that have died, it never lists vagabond.

and the WC4 novel doesn't say if catscratch died or not.

Neither dies in the WC3 novel -- on purpose. In the version Mr. Keith originally submitted to Baen Maniac, Vagabond and Flint are all pretty clearly dead... Origin, which was starting in on WCIV at the time, specifically requested that that be changed before publication.

(It's interesting because it's one of the few times Origin has ever really involved themselves in the writing of the novels.)

(Edit: They requested that Maniac and Vagabond 'possibly' survive -- Keith was allowed to kill Flint.)

They shoulda kept Flint. As I said before, she'd have been great for Blair during his drunked farmer days. I think. . . or maybe she'd have prevented them?

Btw, I like the bar fight in the novel MUCH better than the one in the game. It made Maniac seem more kickass. It proved his competance, and gave him a serious side. I thought it was a nice tough, stuffing his gun in Seether's ear and drawing blood. Threatening him. Actually defeating his bravado. And, personally, I'd love to see Mark Hamill get the stuffing knocked out of him once in a while. Just for kicks, y'know? (I know, I know, people say I'm so full of hate. Bite me)

Well, the WC4 script includes a pair of holovid scenes (exactly like the Rachel holovid in the novel) - depending on what the player did in WC3, Blair is dumped by either Rachel or Flint. So, it wouldn't have really made any difference at all :p.

What happens to rachael then? does she leave blair at the farm? cause in WCIII at the end u saw her and blair in the shuttle together...what happened to that?

I don't know if it's been stated yet, but as for the death of Blair thing, it bears noting that at the end of Prophecy, the anomaly explodes, not the shield generators. They are more or less intact when the explosion occurs. The only parts of the structure that didn't survive were the bridges between the deflection towers.

On a completely related note, I still think Panther and Sosa are the hottest WC ladies. :p

To be dead...or not to be dead...that is the question.

I seem to recall the scene well. One of those tower things drifts away from the whole after the explosion, and behind a bomber that flies past the screen. Then the scene switches to the landing bay on Midway. I take it that Blair was inside that particular tower that drifted away from the cluster, and ended up drifting thru space. There were how many of those towers on that gate? He was only in one of them..so the one that slipped thru the tunnel may not have been the one Blair was in when the whole thing went poof. Did anyone else note at that end, that the FMV showed a bomber flying past the screen and not a Vampire? Casey says "This is Casey..Im ready to come home". But we all know, Casey was in a Vampire, not a bomber in that last mission of the game.

Inconsistancies. Too many of them imo in the entire series. But fun to converse over the controversy.

I really think that if folks would just read from the very beginning of this, they'd see that Chris Blair is dead.

When you're dealing with a completely fictional universe, such as in a videogame, what you see is what you get. The clear message at the end of Prophecy was that he died on the station, and that is what we are supposed to assume and believe until a newer game/book/tv show/movie contradicts that, and explains why he isn't dead.

Wondering if he somehow survived the wreck is for characters within the universe. As third-party observers who are given all relevent information through a God's-eye view, we already know what happened.

He was not shown alive after an event occured which should have caused his death, therefore he is dead.

Ive gotta agree with you there, as much as people dont want Comm Blair to be dead the evidence points alot in that direction

Ah, what's all this "Keep Blair dead" stuff? If you want to imagine him alive, go for it. If you want to imagine him as charred bits of bug food, that's your perogative. Enjoy.

And, yes, there should have been a hardcore scene between Blair and Rachael. "Oh, Chris, my engines are soooo warm . . . you sure know how to turn 'em on." "Aahh, Rachael . . . I love it when our parts mesh . . how's about a speck of spooey on your cheek?"

I laughed out loud at that. How sad.
