You're thinking of "Vanderman", refered to only ever in that section of Fleet Action. Hunter was simply still on furlough when the Tiger's Claw was destroyed.

During the Tamayo scramble mission in WC3, wingmen are replaced by the Victory if they're shot down. If Maniac dies, Hobbes shows up, if Hobbes dies, Vagabond shows up, and so forth. If you go through enough wingmen (all the main character and then the background characters like Mitchell and Primate), the Victory will launch... BACON BOY!

It's a really obscure piece of WC lore, since it absolutely won't ever happen naturally. If you just sit there and let Maniac play the mission, he'll almost certainly win it for you... so you never find out that there are other pilots, much less a BACON BOY.

Thus, Bacon Boy has become a popular part of WC fandom.

True, so very true. People doubt it, but he did exist.

Now I do remember seeing Bacon Boy flying escort on the Victory on a different mission. One of those ships (sometimes with nameless piltos) that fly around the carrier. Perhaps it's a random thing.

Bacon Boy is the Jek Porkins of Wing Commander.
