Is there any limitation on file size?

Straight from the User CP at the top of the page:

"Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller). "

Which is how big a 100x100 pixel .bmp image is (actual size of the 32 k file it'd generate). You'd have to do some animated gif or something to make anything larger.
