Another problem with WC2 in DosBox...

...well for me anyway.

Did what they told me to in Tech Support. Still 1 or maybe 2 problems.

I installed ALL of the the game data files into the gamedata folder, but during install, it STILL mentioned that I was missing a file! The file is KISS.07 So it stopped the install process! No way I'm playing without at least one Angel intimate moment.

So I figured, maybe just a glitch. I got into the game but still another problem! No sound!

While I'm on this subject, anyone know how to install:

"World War one has been raging since August 1914. Over 4 million killed...11 million injured...4 million missing or captured. Only a brave few could rise above...to battle man to man...on fragile...Wings of Glory[machine gun fire, machine gun fire, machine gun fire]"

I got to hear that line "One of these days your arse is going to fall out of those speed holes"

So where is it? Do you have it on the disc? Is it in the folder? Is the installer just not detecting it?

What did you pick for all your sound options in the installer?

What about it? The game installs/works in DOSBox. Did you encounter a problem?

I have you now...what?!!!!!

Well, I did some careful tweeking. I looked over at your post over at Dosbox source forge. Added the lines to the config.sys file, made sure to load it from the C drive drive and... "I will speak to Prince Thrakath alone. Guards, you are dismissed. Welcome young Skywalker...I have been..." Oh wait, wrong Emperor.

Anyways got it to work...almost. Set the cycles to 4000 (exactly), frame skip to 0. Just to be on safe side...loadfix wc2 Origin -k (Hey I wanna nail, Kur, Rakti, Khasra, Jazz and the Prince...that ain't cheating!).

First mission, no problem. Except if you count choppy gameplay. Enough to make it choppy, but not enough to make things happen slowly close to surely. Then comes mission two. Ohhhh...unexpected crash! Okay. ems=false. Fine. No music during missions. No inflight transmissions (well, there is text, but no sound other than missiles, lasers, mass drivers and explosions). So how do I get the best of both worlds?

Far as Wings of Glory goes. Install goes fine. Using that ems=false (at the command prompt in wc ands wog cases) it takes me right out to dos, mentioning some error like this:

error 1019 /../mouse.data?

Now what? Gotta escort those two broadswords to smoke the carrier.

How is it not cheating?

It shouldn't really be choppy. How fast is your computer? Adjust your frameskip to 1 or 2.

Did disabling EMS fix the crash? Did you try playing without the cheat? Did you try an alternate loadfix such as 'loadfix -32 WC2'?

Are you sure it was 1019? It sounds like the game can't access the CD or data files (meaining an installation or mounting mistake). EMS also doesn't need to be disabled.

I found that if you download the latest dosbox, and make the minor change of enavling full screen, and set my mount points, that all of my Origin game work perfectly. The only issue I had was w/ WCIV, but that was cause of a sound card conflict I had. So my advise would be to download a new version of dosbox into a seperate directory. I would bypass the profiler to start and just try from the regular exe, mount the drives and see what happens. The auto settings work pretty good.

Good Luck!

Wings of Glory is pretty sweet!!

Close but No Cigar Chompin Guy in The Shed Fixing his "buses"

Well, I'm close. Real close.

I think I have pretty much "nailed 'em" (As The Captain/General of The Bonnie Heather would say) as far a getting Wing Commander two: Vengence of the Kilrathi to work. I should have explained that it was the CD classic release that I bought in 1995 that I'm refereing to. I've keep everything from that. There is a manual that mentions it could work with Windows 3.11 and DOS.

But back to fragile Wings Of Glory. Despite what you may think, this war... Ah I've gotta stop saying lines from that game. Just shows you how addicted to it. Or at least I was until I could no longer play it.

I stopped using the ems=false line. I also changed the mount cd command. The thing is my DVD drive is drive (D:) and my CD drive is drive (E:). So the command is mount d e:\ -t cdrom . Now is this the problem: Should I type mount d: e:\ -t cdrom. Could missing the : after d be the problem with Wings of Glory.

I can get into the game, configute my joystick and see the title screen, but then it kicks me back out to windows! Or the screen goes black, or the game freezes.

Should I change the settings on the config.sys file? I don't want to make changes that affect my Windows XP performance. How about using the command that freezes 64 kb in DOS?

One final question. Forget about my copy of Privateer? That is, the CD version of Wing Commander: Privateer. It's being re-released. All Right. Oh what is it? A smuggler? Maybe a bad smuggler with some nice contraband to hand over?

No, I'm just a privateer a fragged nav com. Could you tell me where I am?

Deep in trouble! Prepare to be boarded!

I don't think so. Perpare to go to hell!

[Explosion, explosion, HILLARIOUS VOICE]: WHO ARE YOU THAT FLYS SO GOOD? ARE YOU INSANE?

No, just got a lot of cargo, and a lot of bills to pay.

And I the same! You shouldn't kill me because I attacked you!

I don't mind that you tried to attack me. But protecting my king against yours gets expensive. And I'm on a tight budget. [Explosion. Ha, Ha, Ha. Goodbye pirates, goodbye odd green ball. Hmm...]

Anyone got a copy of Privater 2: The Darkening. Scratched [beyond repair, trust me] the second CD.

What do you guys do for fun around here?

In my experience, it makes no difference if you have that colon there or not.

If you're talking about DOSBox, then don't even think about any config.sys file. DOSBox draws on dosbox.conf and that's it. If you're not already using loadfix, then you should try it. You can try loadfix before the executable or something like loadfix -32 or -64.

They're rereleasing it via GameTap. You can get PrivCD working with the tutorial in our Tech Support section.

Closer still

Well, I've seemingly tried every trick in the book with Wings of Glory, and I can't get it to run. I gues I should have said a few things fist

1) I'm using DOSBOX version 0.65. any bugs in it. And yes, I have copied all the .tre files to the wg folder. I even when as far as an overwrite on a few files. I tried ems=false.

2) My cd - rom drive is E: drive. (The D: drive is DVD drive. And yes, I have tried mount d: d:\ -t cdrom) This is frustrating. I keep getting to the title screen and, Boom! back to dos with that 1910 error

3) What should I write in the Dosbox.conf file to change this? And to stop having to mount every drive? Also, why doesn't Dosbox like it when I mount c: as c:\. It says it's not recommended. I have a c:\games dir, where I have a wcgames folder and a wg folder.

Please, I've got to get this game to work.

At the end of dosbox.conf you just add the mount lines to the autoexec section at the end just like you would type them into the prompt in dosbox.

But Still...

Even doing that won't get Wing of Glory to work.

Anybody know how to get Wing Of Glory to work in DosBox version 0.65? I just can't resist playing a game that that has a cigar chompin' mechanic. Hey, even Rachel or Sparks never did that...not that they needed to!

It's always the same. It either freezes, (even setting frameskip to 2 and cycles to 4000) That's what bothers me, it works for WC 2 CD, yet not for Wings Of Glory. Loadfix, ems=false. Man, I've thrown everything at DosBox, except for the Morningstar's Mace!

Also, why doesn't Dosbox like it when I mount c: as c:\. It says it's not recommended.

Just ignore that. Someone had your problem a year or so back, and I installed it then and don't remember it being very hard to overcome. I think the thread was http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=18909 An Error #1910 is pretty straightforward. The game can't see your CD-ROM and the files it needs to access. What are all the exact mounting commands you're using, where is the game installed, and what does the game's .cfg file say?

Well, I should have told everyone that there IS a way to get subtitles, even when speech is on. Just hold CRT and hit T for text!

I still can't get it to work though. The error 1910 can be overcome, but it will start, configure the Joystick and then either:

1) exit back to DosBox

2) Close the DosBox completly

It doesn't seem to matter if I type ems=false, loadfix, jack up the framerate, tinker with cycles, whatever. I'm against mounting the CD rom drive from D: because that's my DVD player. I'm afraid it might explode. I think that I should delete everything...then install it again. Could I just copy the entire game to the hardrive? I remember the manual for WC2 CD Rom classic being able to do that winstall (?) command. I'm close to getting WOG to work. I'll send the cfgs of both DosBox and WOG. I'm not at home now

I don't understand this comment at all. There should be no problem playing the game from a DVD drive. Why would something explode here?

If you copy the game over, it won't have the sound configured. You'll still need to run the installation program to set specific settings.

Is D the DVD drive in Windows? Mountpoints in Dosbox are entirely separate from your Windows configuration.
