    UE won't work

Well, it was new information related to the rest of this thread, so I figured this was the place for it... Thanks for the link. :)

    Cutscenes suck ass, reason #27

On replay I found the main cause of the problem: keyboard and mouse end up "locked" for a bit for some reason when it returns from the cin (I was still firing despite not actually pressing the mouse button) - I guess it lost the "up" transition somewhere along the way. (DX9, XP SP1 in W95...

    Mission impossible.

    > If you have so little time that you can only look at these things as a waste of time, you have my sympathy - but you can hardly fault UE's mission design for that Yeah, fair enough. It certainly never USED to bother me this much back in the WC1/WC2 days, but those were different times. :)...

    Cutscenes suck ass, reason #27

hahahaha Just got screwed over by this AGAIN, this time on 10. We're doing great, just half of one Hydra (that I have the final torp lock on) and a handful of fighters left, I get the Eisen cutscene, I watch it, I get back to spaceflight and suddenly there are missiles locked on me and the...

    Mission impossible.

Now that I've finally finished 9a (in my defence, I haven't actually been playing all this last week, just didn't have a chance until today) I'm reasonably convinced of two things: 1) Even the light enemy presence on the way back prompted an "uh-oh" feeling - until I saw just HOW light it...

    UE won't work

    > I would be inclined to blame the machines - their common characteristic seems to be the relatively low amount of RAM and video card memory Hrm - don't think so. My XP1900/512MB/GF2U machine has the same crash problem on 10a. :( > I've also downloaded the new movie player recently, and I...

    Cutscenes suck ass, reason #27

Finally got time to play it again, and yes: F1 definitely works, so from what you say I'm not actually mad after all. :P

error message when I start UE

Looks like a video card problem, and the only reasonable excuse for a Z-create failure is trying to run a at too high a res (say, 1024 on a 4MB card). Specs/drivers?

Don't think so: I restarted the mission and was undamaged.

    Mission impossible.

    > you expect me to believe that you wouldn't mind repeating the *tough* parts, just because you were killed by a measly Moray? Really, I wouldn't. I LIKE the tough parts - it's the milkruns that irritate me. But maybe I'm just weird. :P Sure, I'd be annoyed to have slugged my way through a...

    Cutscenes suck ass, reason #27

There wasn't any perceptible gap between the end of the Avenger cutscene and the start of the "this is your ship spinning off" one. It's quite possible that there was a missile fired during the cutscene that didn't impact in that time but was only a frame away once it was over, but obviously I...

    Cutscenes suck ass, reason #27

Ah, Origin code at its finest... Got forced into the Avenger cutscene on 9: unfortunately, the game doesn't stop just because you're STUCK in gayass scripted plot land, and I came out of the cutscene to discover that I'd been killed. gg. Since there's no way to skip the fkng things, how...

    Mission impossible.

Last bit first: > If you know the best is behind you, you will look upon the rest of the mission as a waste of time. Clearly then, at least SOME part of any multi-stage mission is going to be a waste of time, because it's inarguable that the current UE format suffers from it as well. That...

    Mission impossible.

Sorry: guess that was a bit unclear. I didn't mean the luck aspect, I meant basically splicing multiple missions together as one, with the "hard bit" always at the end. I know you did it deliberately (since you said so :P) but it really is awkward if the time you can spend on the game is limited...

    Mission impossible.

(Rant warning) This brings me to something I hate: sheer luck. Get the buoy in the first couple of tries and you win, otherwise you almost certainly lose. It's deliberately made worse by having to go through the childishly simple relocation first, then all the scripted crap that you can't...

Which ship do you want to fly on UE2?

Ijuin: yeah, WCP/SO gun handling sucks ass. :/ Given how mobile enemy ships are, full-volley attacks have a pretty high luck component at anything other than point-blank ranges. Agreed that a 2Laser/2Ion style loadout would be a noticeable improvement without Godshipping it, especially since...

Which ship do you want to fly on UE2?

:) Yeah, I know they were short on them. Still, even just 10-15 modded Banshees as Bastard Squadron would be a hell of a threat. Pretty cheap way to build a "Space Superiority"-class fighter that could kick a Vampire's arse, neh? :P I'm a big fan of fast/mobile fighters, for all that...

    Mission notes

Thinking about sketching a few out. Wondering if it's worth it on the offchance that a few more people will stumble across UE in the future, or do you reckon the player pool is pretty much exhausted already?
