    Let the music play

Oh--I have something I just thought about ace, PeteyG--It's just the beginnings of a work for band that's more intricate and a departure from my usual style. I'd like to see what you think of that as well--my comp teacher approved because it was something different, but I don't know if...

    Let the music play

As I tried to explain, I didn't mean it in bad taste, and it wasn't directed towards ace, it was a general statement. I'm sorry it came off poorly as that was not in any way my intention. I have no desire to offend anyone, and to some extent I'm surprised it became such a big issue. I'm...

    Let the music play

You know what, if you want to flame me, that's fine. Last I checked, it's against the rules, but whatever--my problem is my teachers. They're wonderful, and far from being nobodys--I'm not going to bother supplying a list of accomplishments they have as it's not important. You can be a jerk...

    Let the music play

Sorry--guess I didn't think covering my rear end would be an issue--I've had issues with copyright before, and I just want to cover my bases. Besides, this piece, unlike other many other things here, and even work I've written that I don't worry about copyright so much with, has a good...

    Let the music play

Program notes are generally written for people who do not have musical background and are designed so that any layperson can read them and know exactly what the piece is about, the composer's feelings about the subject, and often a description of the work. They are also used in catalogs to try...

    Let the music play

Lydian is the forth musical mode. You may know of the church modes from gregorian chant--the modern modes are not identical to these, but similar. The easiest way to achieve them is to play on all white keys on a piano as follows: Ionian (major) - C to C Dorian (minor) - D to D Phrygian...

Get Wing Commander Music In The Music Section (May 30, 2006)

With UE there are a few samples I threw together and a MIDI pack hosted at the UE website, but I have a few mp3s that are of a slightly higher quality than those. Although Standoff does use some tracks from WC2 and WC3, all of the cutscene music is original, and I have MP3s of those themes...

Get Wing Commander Music In The Music Section (May 30, 2006)

Just out of curiousity--would you guys be interested in hosting some music from UE or Standoff? I'd be willing to send in some MP3s and MIDIs if you are.

    Let the music play

ace, PeteyG: I put together a zip file of a graphic version of the score (each page is saved as a TIFF file-if this is a problem, I can save them as bitmaps as well), and an MP3 to a band piece I completed a few months ago. The premiere is in about 2 weeks. The following is the program note...

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

I'll get on that--give me some time with it (a week or two). It's a lot of tracks to convert to MP3, compile, and send.

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

Ok--if you need any more from me (such as the whole opera if you are still interested in that, LOAF), just let me know and I'll take care of it.

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

Sure--I'll give it a try tomorrow. Shouldn't be too much trouble with the programs I have as long as I can access the file. If you want the whole opera or parts of it or anything, that shouldn't be an issue either, but it is somewhat long and will probably be on the larger side (but based on...

    Let the music play

I'll get some stuff together for you then--pictures, and if you want MIDI renders, but the file sizes will probably be big (I've been dealing mostly with large scores lately).

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

Ok--I found a cadence in the music from the scene in the movie that is very unique, and it matches one of the cadences towards the end of the trio--it's definitely Soave sia il vento. The difficulty came mostly because of the different recording--it's very difficult to hear the male voice in...

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

Well, it's still kind of inconclusive--it's very difficult to hear the soundtrack in that scene because of all the talking over it, and there isn't anything that really gives it away. I'm pretty sure it's Soave sia il vento though. Should have more on this soon.

Rock Me, Commodore James "Paladin" Taggart (May 26, 2006)

I was planning on watching that scene of the movie today, then listening to my recording of the opera to figure out which one it is. The real question is, do we just want the trio in the movie, or other arias/pieces from the opera? Personally, I really like the overture.

J.J. Abrams To Direct 'Star Trek XI'

Honestly, my personal favorite is TOS. While arguments can be made against it because of look, acting, ect., they really did the best with what they had at the time for a TV show--it had to have something special considering the entire franchise is really built on it. However, the reason I...

    Let the music play

Building on western music and music theory could be argued to be two different things. I mean, I guess it depends on how broad our definition music theory is. If we're trickly talking about things like chordal analysis, harmonization, orhcestration, and things like that the I disagree. If the...

    Let the music play

Sure thing--what's the format of your choice then? I can send you pictures of scores and mp3s, or just MIDIs or any combination, or perhaps you have a program that'll open the Sibelius files (I know Sibelius can open Finale Files if they're encoded properly). Let me know.
